MGM and Downtown Disney July 4th Fireworks

by on June 17, 2006

In addition to the usual enhanced fireworks at Magic Kingdom and Epcot for the 4th of July, Disney-MGM Studios and Downtown Disney will be offering sparkling presentations in the sky as well.

MGM’s presentation will occur at 9pm followed by a single showing of Fantasmic! at 10:30pm. Park closing occurs at 10pm on the 4th of July.

Downtown Disney will offer fireworks at Midnight on the 4th, near the dockside stage in the Marketplace section.

Some park-savvy and planning could allow you to see all 4 fireworks presentations at WDW this year. Magic Kingdom will be offering their show on both the 3rd and 4th. On the 4th, if you start with MGM’s at 9pm then run (via International Gateway and the Epcot resorts) to hit Illuminations at 10pm, you have a fighting chance to make it to Downtown Disney by midnight to see their fireworks as well. Wear comfortable shoes.

Spaceship Earth minor updates

by on June 15, 2006

With the recent activity in the post-show area (reported below) is seems likely that all of Spaceship Earth at Epcot will begin to see updates and refurbishments to reflect the new sponsorship from Siemens. One of the first noticeable updates within the ride itself is the updating on many of the lighting systems within the attraction.

The update work seems to focus primarily on the “practical” lighting within the show scenes. This refers to things like flickering candles, lamps, and such. Noticeable changes can be seen in the torches in the Caveman and Egyptian scenes, the candles in the Renaissance portion, as well as the fiber optics in the futuristic portions. The crystal city sparkles like never before.

It is expected that Spaceship Earth will recieve a healthy dose of further TLC in the days leading up to Epcot’s 25th anniversary.
