2009 resort rates starting to appear…

by on July 31, 2008

For value and moderate resorts, standard rooms during value season in 2009 appear to cost the same as 2008. There’s a slight increase in preferred rooms at value resorts – $3. Water-view and king-bed moderates look like they’ll set you back $10 more than in 2008.

Our take on crowd levels through the remainder of 2008

by on July 30, 2008

According to our sources, whatever troubles the U.S. and U.K. economies are having do not seem to be affecting crowds at Walt Disney World. Visitors from other parts of Europe and South America seem to be making up virtually all of the difference.

At this time, we do not plan to adjust downward any of our crowd predictions for the remainder of 2008. We monitor crowd levels in WDW, as well as hotel occupancy data, on an almost daily basis. If the situation changes in Orlando, we’ll change our position. But for now, assume crowds in WDW will be consistent with those seen in the recent past.

Our predictions are within 9 minutes of the actual waits, on average. Even better: we’re within 5 minutes more than half the time.

That being said, we’re fairly certain the 140- and 120-minute wait times posted on 27 May and 9 July are errors, since the posted wait times in the half-hour before and after those readings are far smaller (in the 90-minute range). We won’t bore you with the technical details of why we think this is true (unless you ask), but we’re confident they are. If we adjust for those two days by assuming the peak wait was 90 minutes, our predictions are about +/- 7 minutes from actual park wait times. That’s pretty good.

WDW Ticket Prices Definitely Increasing – As Early as Sunday

by on July 28, 2008

We’re assured by inside sources that Disney will be raising ticket prices as early as this coming Sunday, August 3. If you’re headed to WDW in the next few months, you could save a nice chunk of change by buying your tickets before the weekend.

If you can’t swing that cost right now, we’re sure that ticket resellers such as The Official Ticket Center, Maple Leaf Tickets, and Undercover Tourist will have some tickets available for a short time at the old lower prices.

Finishing the Innoventions makeover

by on July 24, 2008

Innoventions got a new look with a new color scheme last year. It has become a teal and turquoise theme, which was installed on the main entrances with new signs.

After several permits a few months of sitting on their hands, Disney has finally begun installing the new signage at the secondary entrances to the buildings. Perhaps the millennium tent will also take this new color scheme?

McRip-off

by on July 24, 2008

Did you know the on-property McDonalds at Walt Disney World charges more than 2x the price for items found on the dollar menu at other McDonalds throughout the nation? A simple meal costing less then $5 off-property will cost $10+ at this location.

The real rub? If you drive PAST the McDonalds located near the Animal Kingdom theme park, go just beyond the Animal Kingdom autoplaza (do not not enter the autoplaza, go past it on the left) and then make the next left hand turn – you’ll come to a McDonalds just off Disney’s property on Highway 192 at what is known as the “Main Gate” complex of Disney offices and off-site hotels. This less then 5 minute detour is well worth it if you’re driving to McDonalds anyways.
