The Studios Backlot Tour will be closed for “refurbishment” January 4 – February 28, 2009.
No word on exactly what will be done, but many are hoping they’ll just tear it down and start over as the attraction has been hacked into pieces and lost several segments over the years.

A quick look at the new DVC resort at the Contemporary under construction. It’s starting to blend in with the original architecture.

It’s not open often – usually just peak periods – but we like the food and ambiance is great fun too. It doesn’t make much sense to be building a brand new McDonald’s themed eatery directly across the walkway from the location either, so here’s a photo-tour if you’ve never gotten a chance to experience it (and just in case they decide to tear it down when the McDonalds opens).

As you can see, tacos are pretty much what they sell here, though you can get a child’s cheese quesadilla. The seating area offers an ample topping bar, a cozy fireplace with some nifty pirates paraphernalia, and a courtyard with a staircase that reminds us of the famous Court of Angels in New Orleans Square at Disneyland.

In a series of apparent cost cutting measures both Epcot and the Magic Kingdom are lacking some of their usual holiday charm this year.
The Magic Kingdom’s Christmas Tree has not been installed in the park yet this year despite charging guests for admission the Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party. Rumor holds that the tree will not be installed until after the Christmas Parade taping has finished as it gets in the way of camera shots down Main Street – lack year it had to be moved and repositioned after the taping.
Over at Epcot the Tree Lighting show has been cut entirely and the lighted arches and tree just sort of come on without much fanfare.
Elsewhere, Disneyland in California is sporting a brand new specially fabricated Christmas Tree covered in high-end synchronized LED lights that light up in fanciful patterns along with the castle as part of a holiday show.

A snazzy new computer kiosk has popped up in the lobby of the Contemporary Resort near the coffee shop. It offers document printing from either various media card formats or via a wifi connection.

Work is expanding on the old fry-cart location between Frontierland and Adventureland. The refurbishment walls now block a significant area suggesting the expanded dining offerings will be more then a glorified cart or kiosk once it reopens.
