Word around the office egg nog cart is that Disney will extend the booking window for its “Buy-4-Get-7″ discount through mid-January 2009, from its late December expiration. No changes to terms or travel dates as far as we know.
Update 17 Dec: Also look for Disney to heavily promote this during the Christmas parade. We’ve heard of no other discounts coming out between now and mid-January.
We’ve made some recent changes to the model that we use for predicting crowd levels and calculating best day / worst day park recommendations.
It should give us a little more precise estimation of the ups and downs of crowd levels within a given time frame. Of course, with updating the way we do things it also gives rise to a few glitches along the way so you may see updates more regularly than normal. Your patience, as always, is appreciated.
What if you’ve made plans based on the crowd calendar and now the crowd calendar has changed?
Don’t worry, just because our new model may have changed the crowd level index for a given day or changed the recommended parks for a given day doesn’t mean that the old calendar wasn’t correct. Our intention is to improve the model with each re-incarnation even if it is only by a small amount. A gentle reminder: The crowds that you experience in a day of touring depend much more greatly on the touring plan that you follow as compared to the day you choose to visit. In other words, it doesn’t matter what day you visit if you come armed with a good touring plan.
A couple notes of interest:
We have posted dates for Pirate and Princess Parties during 2009 although nothing official has appeared on Disney’s website yet. Our sources tell us these dates are pretty solid so we choose to believe them with the stipulation that if they’re wrong we get to blame them for all the angry emails that we receive. If we hear any news we’ll post it here.
We have increased our predictions for crowds during Superbowl weekend in Tampa since our experience tells us that overflow of hotel bookings in Tampa could increase crowds at Disney that weekend.
The pool is scheduled for a rehab 1/5-1/23 – guests will be able to use the Polynesian pool along with Contemporary guests (who also wont have a pool). Additionally, the main building at the Grand will be getting it’s rehab this spring/summer. The tile is scheduled to be replaced in work running through early July.
The sundries shop at the Contemporary resort will be closed for refurbishment and renovation Jan – April 2009. The more unique items sold at the store, including pantyhose, can be found at other Disney resort stores such as the one at Saratoga Springs (though we suggest checking the Polynesian and Grand Floridian before making the drive – we just happen to know they were sold at Saratoga Springs).
The fry cart when reopened with seating will be called the Golden Oak Outpost.
Also, Pecos Bill’s will be getting a rehab from 1/11 – 2/13 for some interior and floor work.
