For the past few weeks I’ve been downloading your podcasts at work and listening to them while I work. Of course today I find out WDW Today is now blocked. Oh well, maybe tonight.

  • Maelstrom is a nice little ride.

Canada could have a great boat ride too, based on a wilderness canoeing theme.

There are a couple of really cool films that they used to show us in grade school, either or both of which could be used as the basis for a ride.

One of them is called “Paddle to the Sea” where a boy carves a wooden canoe with an Indian in it and throws it into the stream near his home somewhere in the woods of northern Ontario. It shoots the rapids down to Lake Superior, then floats down the great lakes, over Niagara Falls, down the St. Lawrence River to the Atlantic Ocean.

The other one is “The Rise and Fall of the Great Lakes” in which a grizzled prospector in a canoe travels through time from the age of the reptiles down through the ice ages, falls 5000 ft when the glaciers disappear, shoots rapids, goes over waterfalls, and in the modern day encounters large ships and pollution.

I can see lots of opportunities for integrating animatronics, film, wind and splashing effects (spouting whales), sound (loon calls, etc.) flume drops, and so on. It would blow away Mexico, which I think is kind of a write-off except for the volcano at the beginning and the fireworks at the end.

  • You know I can’t download this at home either. Here is the error message I get:

The requested URL /shows/Episode_575_-_06-01-09.mp3 was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

However, when I change -01- to -08- I can listen to it.
