Least Expensive Ticket Calculator Updated

by on September 8, 2009

We’ve updated the Least Expensive Ticket Calculator to include a couple of minor price updates, and we’ve added two new vendors: Kissimmee Guest Services and Orlando Fun Tickets.

If you’ve not used the ticket calculator before, here’s a quick overview: You tell the calculator how many days you’re going to visit the theme parks, water parks and DisneyQuest, and whether you’re going to park hop or buy the “no expiration” ticket option. The calculator will tell you the least expensive combination of tickets to buy, and from which vendor, in order to see everything you want.

For example, if you’re visiting the theme parks but only visiting one water park on one day, there are many instances where buying a separate water park admission is a better deal than buying the Water Parks Fun and More option on your Magic Your Way ticket. You could grab a list of ticket prices from all the major vendors and sit down with a calculator to figure out all the options. Or you could use the calculator, which does it for you in about ten seconds. Use the calculator.

2010 Unofficial Guide Talk and Book Signing Saturday, September 26 at Barnes & Noble in Greensboro, NC

by on September 7, 2009

I’ll be doing a talk and book signing at the Friendly Center Barnes & Noble on Saturday, September 26 at 2 pm. I haven’t decided on topics for the talk yet, so let me know if there’s anything specific you’d like me to cover. In keeping with previous meet and greets, I’ll be buying food (coffee, in this case) for anyone who shows up.

TouringPlans.com Pre-D23 Expo Meet @ The Hungry Bear

by on September 6, 2009

I’ll be down at the D23 Expo along with hordes of fellow Disney fans–so why not have a meet?

Wednesday, September 9th, 3-4pm, Hungry Bear Restaurant inside Disneyland. Look for the table with a few Unofficial Guides strewn about it. Perfect for those attending the uber-Haunted Mansion Meetup (09-09-09) at 5pm. Our last Disneyland meetup was fantastic–hope to see some locals get off work early and make it out (no blackout dates)!

Not in Disneyland on Wednesday, but happen to be in Disney World? Go say hi to Unofficial Guide Statistician Fred Hazelton at the Animal Kingdom! He’ll be at the Flame Tree Barbecue from 5-7pm. That’s right, we’re having bi-coastal TouringPlans.com meetups within a few hours of each other. Bonus points to anyone who attends both!

Be sure to go follow @TouringPlans and @DisneyStatsWhiz on Twitter for updates from the parks and the Expo this week!

Quick Help Request For Parents With Child Ages 3-9 Annual Passes

by on September 5, 2009

A reader has asked whether having a child ages 3 to 9 with an annual pass is sufficient to avoid paying parking charges at the theme parks. If you’ve got one, please check the Disney website to see if it lists free parking as a benefit, and post the results here. And if you’ve got the small paper brochure that comes with the ticket, even better. Thanks for the help!

Toast to Summer at the Polynesian

by on September 3, 2009

Well, all good things must come to an end.  With Labor Day around the corner another summer has come and gone and much to this beach bum’s dismay September is here. So before you pack away your beach chairs and sunscreen, lets have one last toast to summer!  Since nothing says summertime like a fruity drink with and umbrella in it, I’d like to take a closer look at the two bars at Disney’s Polynesian Resort before its all over this weekend.

Tambu Lounge, just outside of ‘Ohana in the Great Ceremonial House, is a great place to grab a drink after a long day in the parks.  Be aware that this location can get busy during the dinner time hours since it services guests waiting for both ‘Ohana and Kona Cafe.  However, after the dinner rush it is a great place to sip on a night cap.  The cast members tending bar have always been friendly and keen to offer suggestions for both beer and specialty drinks.  On our last visit we tried a few different concoctions and loved all of them.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; anywhere offering drinks served in a pineapple is high on my list.  If you’re hungry the bar also offers a selection of appetizers to munch on.  Tambu Lounge is open from 5 p.m to midnight every day.  My friends and I have been known to shut down this bar!

If you’d rather sit outside to enjoy your drink try the Barefoot Pool Bar.  Nestled near the Nanea Volcano Pool (the resort’s main pool), this outdoor location provides guests with plenty of lounging options.  On a nice day, you can sit poolside and sip you margarita or take your drink down to the shores of Seven Seas Lagoon for a happy hour treat.  Or if you are a romantic mood, find a hammock for you and your sweetie with a glass of wine just in time for Wishes at the Magic Kingdom.  This watering hole offers the typical cocktail, beer, and wine selections found through out the resorts as well as a small assortment of snacks.

So next time you are in Walt Disney World head to the Polynesian to soak in the tropical atmosphere with a fruity drink.  Get away from the hustle and bustle of the parks, find a hammock, and sip your… to recharge your batteries before heading back for night time festivities.

Cheers to another great summer!  I hope you all have a fun and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Next time I’ll discuss a bit of planning taking place for my next trip…
