Tracking Attraction Closures at Walt Disney World

One piece of data we stay on top of are “closures,” or as Disney calls them, “operational updates.” That is to say, when attractions are scheduled for a refurbishment/closing that lasts at least a full day, and sometimes weeks or months.

We now have a page on the new site that puts all these closures in one place: http://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/closures. Feel free to bookmark for future use! We update our database every couple of days.

It’ll also list attractions that were permanently closed in the past year (like Pooh’s Playful Spot in the Magic Kingdom) as well as attractions that are scheduled to be permanently closed in the future (like Block Party Bash in Hollywood Studios).

Please let us know if you have any feedback or comments!

UPDATE:: We now list water park closures going on this winter!

  • Thanks so much for adding this! It’s getting to the point that my personal notes for trip planning are all going to basically be “Go to TouringPlans.com for the necessary info” 🙂

  • Another great blog post Tood! I’ve seen all these movies at least once! With the exception of The American Adventure, when tourng with my family we always skip these! My family finds them boring! When traveling to WDW alone I will sometimes visit these attractions as I have plenty of time and no one to please but my self! I know they updated the Canada movie a few years ago but in general they are dated and could use enhancements! Perhaps some animatronics!

  • Love this addition to the site. Thanks! My first thought on checking for closures for our upcoming trip was “Astro Orbiters, really? Ok, no problem.” Of course my five year old wants to ride the rockets, but they’ll be back in action before we leave. Not a big deal, but “phew” just the same.

  • What a GREAT addition to the site! So far, there is only one on the schedule for my late winter / early spring trip. Appreciate all you do on this site and in the book!
