Time again to check in with the friends of TouringPlans.com and what they’ve been up to this past week. These are the websites and podcasts we sponsor because we think they do a great job of giving you the best Disney information. So let’s see what’s been going on this week!
This past weekend was one of the biggest of the year in the Disney community, as it was the 40th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. I think everyone I follow on Twitter was down at Walt Disney World for the festivities, including the Be Our Guest Podcast crew. Earlier this week, they spoke with listener Abby about the 40th and reminisced about all that Walt Disney World has meant to them over the years.
The WEDway Radio guys have been preparing for this weekend for quite some time now. They have a series of 40th Anniversary shows that you must check out, entitled the 40 Years of Magic series. Nate posted a bit about it on the blog, but check out older episodes to find stories from each of Disney World’s four decades.
MousePlanet’s Walt Disney World Update has full coverage of the 40th events, including the ceremony at Cinderella Castle from this past Saturday. It was a great time had by all from what I understand, with some fun sights. And don’t forget the kickoff of my favorite event of the year at Epcot: the International Food & Wine Festival! MousePlanet has you covered there as well.
Speaking of Food & Wine, AllEars.Net has one of the best resources for information on the festival every year. Before I go on my trip, I always check out the Food Booth Survey, where you guys rate what you ate! It’s a fantastic place to find out what was good and what was not at each of the food booths. For more great information like that, check out the AllEars.Net Food & Wine page and subscribe to the newsletter to get pixie dust in your inbox.
It was a big weekend for Walt Disney World and for Lou Mongello, as the podcast veteran did one of his patented live shows for the 40th Anniversary of Walt Disney World. It was 40 straight hours for Lou, which got very entertaining. See his preview of the live show on the WDW Newscast, and check Lou’s site for lots of highlights of the 40th celebration from the weekend.
Speaking of Lou Mongello, he and Beci Mehnken of Mouse Fan Travel were the special guests on this week’s Betamouse, as the tech crew talked all about the technology of Disney’s newest DVC resort, Aulani. There’s lots to look at, including the Menehune Adventure Trail scavenger hunt. Check out the show for Lou and Beci’s first-hand report since they got to go to Hawaii and check it out in person. I’m so jealous!
Mike Scopa of the WDW Today Podcast recently took a trip out to Disneyland and finished the second episode telling the rest of the crew about it during the past week. Also, this week, the guys welcomed Bill Burke, the author of Mousejunkies, to talk about his book.
Disneyland has seen its share of parties, but this week it was Disney California Adventure that brought the party back, as ElecTRONica returned to the park. Disneyland Live has a full report with some fabulous pictures of the madness and fun that is ElecTRONica.
Also on the left coast, Dateline Disneyland checked out all the news with Halloween Time getting into full swing at the resort. I love seeing the characters in their Halloween costumes. This is one of the best things Disney has added recently, and if you haven’t seen the photos, Dateline Disneyland has it covered.
One of the things I love about Disneyland is Main Street, U.S.A., and how different and nostalgic it is when compared to Walt Disney World’s. Apparently, the Mousetalgia crew feels the same way, because it devoted this show entirely to Main Street. This is a must-listen for those of you who really enjoy the fine details of the often forgotten section of the park.
On the Disney Film Project this week, we’re joined by Scarlett Litton of TouringPlans.com fame, as we take a look at the recently re-released edition of Dumbo. Join the crew for an in-depth discussion of flying elephants, dancing crows and more.
That’s what is going on in our world this week. Enjoy!
