Magic Kingdom Early 2012 Refurbishment Schedule Revamped

Some of the refurbishment dates for attractions scheduled to be closed in late 2011 and early 2012 at the Magic Kingdom have been modified per the official Disney World website:

Update: After this post, many closure dates on the Disney World website returned to their previous values. Exceptions are the Swiss Family Treehouse (which is closed a few additional days) and Liberty Square Riverboat (which closes much sooner and may be in error). The new information is now reflected above.

Finally note that rumor has Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed from January 9, 2012 to May 27, 2012, even though Disney’s website currently shows its closure lasting until April 30, 2012. We will continue to do our best to keep our Disney World Closures page up-to-date

  • When they say May 27th does that usually mean they re-open on the 27th, 28th, or some other date? My last day of a quick weekend trip will be the 27th and I’m wondering if I’ll get to ride BTM or not. I don’t have much experience with being around for the tail end of a refurb.

    • In May we were at the Studios. Star Tours was open as a “soft opening” five days before the ride was officially open. We rode twice that day, lines were short. There was a sign out though that something about “test rides” and that the attraction could clsoe at any time. Good Luck!

  • I’ll be down in December, and I’m sad about the Riverboat. I was looking forward to it.

    • Our latest information suggests that the Liberty Square Riverboat will be closed November 9-10, 2011, and then close for a second refurb in late January 2012.

I apologize for all the confusion regarding closures today. The changes on Disney’s website have looked less and less reliable as the day has progressed. It’s always fun trying to keep track of information that Disney does not cleanly share with the public!

  • If you click on the calendar dates, WDW is still showing the original refurbishment dates, starting on January 9.

      • I was so excited there, for a minute, as we have a January trip planned!

  • Is Fantasmic! still shut down through mid-February? This caused us to book a few months later than originally planned, as it is in my Top 3.

    • This should read a few *weeks, not months. Also, hard not to be bummed about Big Thunder, but if the trade off is Dumbo being down as well, it is almost a fair trade 😉 How soon we will know a schedule of the new Fantasyland attactions being open?

    • Per the closures page linked in this blog post, Fantasmic! is still scheduled to be closed from 1/9/12 to 2/12/12.
