Impact of Christmas Parade Taping December 2 and 3

As many of you are probably aware, Disney is filming its annual Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade on Friday, December 2, and Saturday, December 3. This will only affect the Magic Kingdom, but here are a few things you should be aware of if you are planning on visiting the park on one of those days:

One last very important thing to be aware of is that the Magic Kingdom will be extremely busy all the way down Main Street, U.S.A. The extra crowds actually do not affect the wait times very much, which is why our Crowd Calendar ratings are not exceptionally high. The problem you will face will be simply maneuvering down Main Street to get to the attractions.

If you are not interested in the parade taping it is probably best to avoid the Magic Kingdom this weekend. If you decide to visit the park, make sure you get there early and use a Touring Plan. It also won’t hurt to sharpen your ‘squeezing through people’ skills.

  • We were there on Dec 2 and found the crowds to be very light. We made rope drop, used the adult touring plan and walked on every ride with no wait at all – even added in Dumbo and the Teacups during the morning. The parade audience was gathered in front of the castle stage for the performance tapings and did not impact Main Street or the rest of the park at all. We also had tickets for MVMCP that night (12/2). Before the party started I asked at the wrist band station about the attendance for the evening. The cast member said we were in for a great time because 20,000 was considered light attendance and only 17,000 tickets had been sold! We had a blast!!!

  • There’s a MVMCP on the 2nd … do you think those crowds be affected?

    • I was wondering about this too. I have my tickets so I’m still going-and I know it’s a black out date for passholders to get a discount…I’m just worried now that the taping will continue to the party events?

  • Another option would be to take the Railroad train at the entrance to the park, in order to get to Frontierland and then back to the front, if you want to avoid Main Street that day.

  • Do you call a 9.4 (MK 12/3) “not exceptionally high”? That number has nearly doubled in the last couple of months!
