Greetings and salutations from the Happiest Place on Earth!

My name is Seth Kubersky, and it is my deepest honor to introduce myself as the newest contributing author to the TouringPlans.com blog. If my name sounds familiar, it may be because you’ve seen it on the cover of The Unofficial Guide to Disneyland 2012, along with my esteemed co-authors Bob Sehlinger and Len Testa. (If it doesn’t sound familiar, run out right now and buy a copy of the book! Go ahead, I’ll wait…)

You might also be familiar with me as the Live Active Cutures columnist for the Orlando Weekly alternative newspaper, where I cover attractions, arts, and entertainment in the Central Florida area, or from my feature articles in Orlando Attractions Magazine. Perhaps you’ve seen some of the travel guides to the Orlando area I’ve co-authored in your local bookstore (if you still have one of those), or if you’ve got a really long memory, you might even remember my contributions on JimHillMedia.com.

At this point, you may be asking yourself “What is an Orlando guy doing writing about Anaheim?” It’s a reasonable query, but at the risk of sparking another “Walt Disney World vs. Disneyland” war on this website, let me simply say this: despite living less than 30 minutes from the Magic Kingdom, I’ve actually spent more time inside the Disneyland Resort over the past year. In fact, according the the online statistics for my Premier Annual Pass (the best investment any serious bi-costal Disneyholic can make), since last February I’ve spent 29 days at Disneyland Park and/or Disney California Adventure, not counting hard-ticket events like the Halloween party. That’s a month of my life, which isn’t shabby considering I live a cross-country plane trip away. And when I’m not on one of my tri-monthly trips to the West Coast, I keep close tabs on happenings at the Resort though the wonders of the world wide interwebs.

Now that you know my qualifications, I hope you’ll join me for my regular updates on Disneyland and the Anaheim resort area here on the TouringPlans.com blog. At the moment, I’m hard at work writing the 2013 edition of the Unofficial Guide (yes, we start work on the new versions this far in advance!) so my missives may be a might bit sporadic at first. But soon, I’ll be bringing you a steady diet of Disney dish direct from Walt’s original park.

For starters, I’ll be writing a regular column called “Last Week at Disneyland,” featuring a roundup of the latest news and rumors from some of our partner websites, including MousePlanet, MiceAge, and JimHillMedia. You’ll also find in-depth statistics on resort crowds from the past week, straight from our Touring Plans database. And while you’re at Disneyland Resort, keep submitting wait times through our Lines smartphone app — you may find yourself mentioned in my column!

In addition, at the beginning of each new month I’ll be bringing you “This Month at Disneyland,” featuring handy information on predicted crowd levels, attraction openings and closures, special events, and everything else you’ll need to know when paying Mickey a visit.

Beyond these regular features, I hope to present a rotating repertoire of featurings delving into my favorite details around Disneyland, and expanding on trip planning topics that we only have room to touch on in the Unofficial Guide print edition.

You can expect:

  • In-depth analysis of Disneyland attractions both beloved and oft-bypassed
  • Expert advice on planning your next Anaheim vacation
  • Photos and videos of the parks from my personal collection
  • Explorations of special tours and experiences found around Disneyland
  • Previews of new material from the 2013 guidebook, including sneak peaks of our Cars Land coverage
  • And much more!

Look for my regular contributions to commence in the coming weeks. Until then, you can write to me at seth@touringplans.com or visit my homepage at www.sethkubersky.com. I’m looking forward to hearing from our readers what you want to know about the Disneyland Resort.

Until then, as Tigger would say, TTFN!

  • Welcome Seth!! Ok everyone, Seth is good people, so go easy on him. On second thought, hammer him with questions, he holds a cornucopia of information. Including the definition of cornucopia.

    Hi Seth,

Nice to “meet” you. Quick question – you mention online statistics for your annual pass. I didn’t know this existed. Do you have a link?

    Thanks!

  • Welcome Seth! I will be following your blogs with great interest as we are planning to hit Disneyland next spring…looking forward to your posts!

  • Welcome Seth! I too am a Premier pass holder and I am a DL local. I’d love to visit WDW as often as you visit DL, but the plane fare prices hold me back. Please let me know if you have any tips about airfare.

    • I’m working on a future blog post on shopping for airfare. Flying from FL to CA has gotten more expensive, but you can still find round trip tickets around $400. Watch kayak.com, but also check airlines like Virgin America that don’t use aggregators. Fly midweek at off times, and consider flying into one airport and out another (LAX or SNA) to save money. Build your frequent flier points, I earn a first class round trip about ever other year. Since good hotels are cheaper at DL than WDW the flight cost is usually a wash for me, but your mail age may vary going the other way.
