As you can see, we’ve moved the Weekly Disneyland Photo Update from Monday to Fridays. This week we take a look at construction and maintenance going on around the resort.
On Tuesday Disneyland celebrated its 57th birthday with a small celebration in Town Square. The event was similar to the low key birthdays in the past few years where they bring out a boat load of characters to sing happy birthday. They also re-play Walt Disney’s opening day speech over the loud speakers. Please forgive the poor pictures, I underestimated the popularity of this event and showed up late. Town Square was gridlocked and the only spot available was way off to the side.
The path that was used as Disney California Adventure’s temporary entrance remains behind a wall of hedges. This area will eventually get a planter that matches the other side of the entrance near Oswald’s Gas.
I pleased to bring you a new feature for the Weekly Photo Updates. Each week I will show you a vintage Disneyland picture and give you a little bit of background about it.
Our first picture is of the Mark III Monorail (in service 1969 to 1987) as it glides over the Submarine lagoon. Notice the submarine has its original grey color scheme. The submarines remained grey until 1986 when they were re-painted yellow. The original Submarine Voyage operated from 1959 to 1998.
That’s it for this week. Do you have something you want me to cover in the weekly photo update? Leave a comment in the section below!
