Disney Officially Launches “My Disney Experience” Mobile App

We have some new details about the brand new My Disney Experience mobile app that Disney released today. This app is currently in beta testing, so expect things to change while Disney gets all the kinks worked out.

First of all, the basics: The new My Disney Experience app is like the current Disney Mobile Magic app, but it is plussed to the next degree. So, not only will you be able to have park maps, park hours, wait times, restaurant information, and meet and greet times on your phone, but you’ll also be able do things like make and cancel Advanced Dining Reservations through the app using your Disney.com account. (You must have a Disney.com account in order to be able to do this. Also, if you wish to make your dining reservations online, starting August 1, you will only be able to do so if you have a Disney.com account. If you do not wish to have an account, you can still call 407-WDW-DINE to make your reservations.)

Also interesting to note is that it appears this new app will be connected with the new FASTPASS+ experience that is being rolled out through the NextGen project that Disney is currently working on. Much like the test that was done a few months back, Disney will be testing the FASTPASS+, but this time through the use of the My Disney Experience app.

Guests who are booked for a stay from September 18 – 24, 2012, may have the opportunity to experience this feature of the app. (It appears that Disney is selecting guests to participate who are using Disney’s Magical Express Service.) Guests who are selected will be sent information and given the opportunity to go online ahead of time and select their FASTPASS+ attractions at the Magic Kingdom only during the test.

Disney has made the process of choosing your FASTPASS+ attractions very easy. First, you’ll log onto https://fastpassplus.disney.go.com.¬†From there, you’ll use your Reservation ID to confirm your travel party information. Finally, you’ll be able to select your dates and attractions. Guests who get to experience this test will need to bring their Disney FASTPASS+ cards (that were enclosed in the packet of information sent to them) to the Magic Kingdom on their confirmed dates. Then when the time they selected for their FASTPASS+ rolls around, they’ll need to present the cards at the Disney FASTPASS+ entrance.

Before guests leave home, they will be able to select 2 attractions from one grouping and 2 attractions from another grouping. They will also choose what time they wish to experience the attraction, unless the attraction has a specific time that it will take place. The different attractions guests can choose from are:

 Group 1 (Choose 2 experiences)

  • The Barnstormer
  • Celebrate a Dream Come True Parade
  • Dumbo
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Jungle Cruise
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Mickey’s Philharmagic
  • Town Square Theater: Meet Mickey and Minnie

Group 2 (Chose 2 experiences)

  • Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin
  • Main Street Electrical Parade
  • Peter Pan’s Flight
  • Space Mountain
  • Splash Mountain
  • Town Square Theater: Meet the Disney Princesses
  • Wishes Nighttime Spectacular

The Disney Mobile Magic app will cease to exist by December. The My Disney Experience app is available for iPhone and iPad devices today. Versions for other devices are expected later.

  • It doesn’t appear that the Android version is available yet. Any timeframe on that?

      I’d guess by the end of the year since Mobile Magic is supposed to go away in 2013, but I don’t think anyone outside of Disney knows the Android release schedule yet.

  • I’m wondering what the fastpass for the parades and fireworks gets you? A special reserved section to watch?

  • Love the article! 4 attractions seems a bit low for one day. I know that is how it has been for the tests (both May and August) but do you think Disney will let you reserve more from each group once this hits the “market”?

  • Just downloaded it (iPhone) and connected my Disney.com account. Still exploring, but, yes, it is a good enhancement of the Mobile Magic app. Can’t wait to try it out in the World.

  • I just had to do an upgrade to my Android version of Disney Mobile Magic & noticed several changes with the upgrade. When I clicked on the guidemap (at HS, for example), I could click on different attractions & see the wait times & FastPass availability. Thought this was a great feature! We are going in December, so I can’t wait to see the changes that occur in the app between now & then!

  • The app is not allowing me to create an account.

  • I agree with Andy above–four fastpasses doesn’t seem like a lot, especially if they are parades rather than rides. Do you know if guests will be able to get the old-fashioned fastpasses too? Foe example could I get my two FP+ and also pick up a traditional FP for another ride?

    • My understanding is that over the short term, both FP and FP+ will exist. The long-term plan is to completely replace FP with FP+, but I think that’s a couple of years off.

  • I downloaded it from the UK iTunes app store this morning (we had to wait a few months for the Mobile Magic app) – I won’t be able to use it on our vacation (next week!) due to the high roaming charges, but it’s fun to have a look at the maps and other features :)

  • We don’t have iPhones, so I guess we won’t be able to use the new app on our Android phones for our upcoming trip this October. But we do have an iTouch, and if Disney added WiFi to the parks, hopefully we will be able to use the app in the parks that way!
    I love Lines, and will continue to rely on it for the wait times and menu items. But the detailed maps, and attraction descriptions in the Disney app are unparalleled.

  • I meet the criteria. I sure hope I get picked to do some testing. We will be there on the 16th and are using Magical Express. Please pick me :)

  • No option to cancel an ADR (just tried to cancel one for today). Help notes to go online or phone to cancel. I hope this gets included as is is a pain to cancel one on your smartphone now.

  • Was about to become a premium member when I got side-tracked reading this post and downloading the app!

    Any ideas if Disney is planning to do more testing throughout the year. Say…October by chance? Man, Disney would totally benefit by having me as one of their test subjects!

  • I love being able to tie in my WDW account, however, I’m not seeing where they have pulled over existing resevations into the app once I log in. Am I missing something?? Nice app, that would be much better if it truly tied in your entire vacation reservation.

  • As long as it is available for android by the time I go next year I won’t be upset. But it does seem a but unfair that Mobile Magic was just released to other carriers within the last month or so only to have it go away completely come Dec. Then again that may be why it was released to other carriers, since it will be useless soon.
