The Magic, The Memories, and Merch! July photo report for the Disney Outlet Store

by on July 31, 2013

TP_MagicMemoriesMerch_LogoWe all have our favorite stores in the Walt Disney World Parks and Resorts to get our fill of merchandise. Whether it’s the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney, the Emporium on Main Street at the Magic Kingdom, or Everything POP! at the Pop Century Resort, it’s not that hard to find a gift shop filled to the brim with the latest Disney Vinylmation, t-shirts, and plushes. But did you know that there is a place where all the merchandise Disney has a hard time selling ends up? A magical store filled with discount prices and Disney-related items that even Guy Selga wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Disney outlet stores.

Disney Testing Magical Express from Downtown Disney

by on July 31, 2013

Disney's Magical Express LogoDisney is always looking at ways to improve guest experience, and as a test, from August 1 – 31, it is doing just that: Disney’s Magical Express (which is free bus transportation to and from Orlando International Airport and Disney Resort Hotels for guests staying at those hotels) will give some guests the option to be picked up at Downtown Disney.

This test, which is currently limited to guests staying at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort (both French Quarter and Riverside), permits guests to choose to leave from either their resort or Downtown Disney in order to head back to the airport. This will allow guests additional time to spend enjoying all that Downtown Disney has to offer.

Guests who are eligible to take part in this test must have a domestic flight that leaves Orlando International Airport between 3 pm and midnight or an international flight that leaves between 4 pm and 1 am.

My MyMagic+ Test Experience

by on July 31, 2013

Last week I took part in a MyMagic+ test at Walt Disney World. When I let Touring Plans blog readers know that I was headed down for testing, you all came up with some great questions about using the new electronic systems at the parks and resorts. After having spent four days with my MagicBand and after having spoken to many cast members about the program, I’m here to give you some answers and a full report about my experience.

Before I get going, let me first say that every MyMagic+ cast member I encountered was incredibly enthusiastic about the testing. They bent over backwards to solicit real, honest feedback about the guest experience. There are kinks in the system, but they are trying very hard to work them out.

MyMagic+ starts with with the My Disney Experience center on the Walt Disney World website. You can find this prominently displayed at the top right of the welcome page at DisneyWorld.com. You must have (or create) an online account with Disney to access any of the MyMagic features. At my home computer, I linked my resort confirmation number and several existing dining reservation numbers to my account. I selected colors and names for MagicBands for myself and my husband, Jeff. We also chose FastPass+ attractions and ride times for our park days.

More Info About The California Grill’s Refurbishment

by on July 30, 2013

As many of you know, California Grill at the top of Walt Disney World’s Contemporary Resort is in the midst of a very large scale refurbishment, and we’ve been keeping you updated as the work has progressed. We’ve already given you a look at the decor, as well as what some of the new menu items will be when the restaurant opens back up.

Recently, while I myself was at Walt Disney World, Disney revealed some of the new dessert options that guests will be able to partake in. These include banana fritters, chocolate pudding cake, and a lemon cheesecake. Perhaps one of the most intriguing options is the Sundae Sampler, which will include a caramel corn sundae, a Coke float, and a strawberry sundae.

Observations from Magic Kingdom: July 29, 2013

by on July 30, 2013

402After some time off work I was back at it yesterday with a visit to Magic Kingdom. Mostly I wanted to verify menus to see if anything changed while I was off, but I knew there were a few other changes as well. I got to the park around 9:30am and after a quick stop at Main Street Bakery for coffee I was on my way.

It felt so good to just be back in Magic Kingdom. No matter how many times I visit I never get sick of the feeling just standing on Main Street. The music, the vehicles rolling by, the view of Cinderella Castle. It really is magical. I love it so much.

Brand New Theater Coming For Festival of The Lion King

by on July 29, 2013

It’s been rumored for months. I mean, even when you visit Disney’s Animal Kingdom, you can see the construction underway near Tusker House.

However, today, it was officially announced by the Disney Parks Blog that the Festival of the Lion King is going to move from its current location in Camp Minnie-Mickey to a new home over in the Africa section of the park. (Of course, rumors are indicating that this move is being done because Camp Minnie-Mickey is set to be the home of Avatar when construction starts on that project.)

The show should remain intact as the same spectacular stage show with amazing singing and talented performers that we have come to know and love. The new theater is expected to open sometime in 2014. We’ll keep you posted as we find out more!
