I adore the Walt Disney World water parks! I’ve always enjoyed water slides and relaxing in the lazy river…but the Disney water parks also have such great themeing. Despite my love I don’t get to visit them too often and was excited when someone suggested via Twitter that I go check out the Limited Time Magic Teen Beach Movie Beach Party at Typhoon Lagoon promoting the new Disney Channel original movie.
I headed out late in the morning and got to the park around 10am. My first stop at the water parks is always locker rental. Since I’m often by myself, I don’t like leaving all my stuff just out on a chair and prefer to have a safe place to leave everything. After renting the locker and changing I had about 45 minutes til the first Beach Party and decided to take a spin in Castaway Creek, Typhoon Lagoon’s lazy river. This is my favorite part of the park! I love just relaxing and floating along and especially watching all the people. I thought it might be interesting to take a point-of-view video of the whole loop around the park. It may sound silly, but I find watching and listening to all the people so entertaining!
There was an exit right near the beach where the Teen Beach Movie Beach Party was going on, and I got out and headed over. They had the typical DJ set up with some themed decorations and a few costumed dancers (dressed as the “surfers” and “bikers” featured in the movie). The party lasted for 30 minutes as the DJ and dancers led games like Limbo and Water Balloon Toss. There was also some time for dancing where they played original songs from the movie.
Overall the event was pretty lackluster. While the activities they were doing weren’t bad, there just didn’t seem to be too many people more interested in that than all the slides and the wave pool. The kids who were participating were having a good time, but this isn’t something I would recommend going out of your way for. If you do want to check out the party, it will be running several times a day through September 1.
When the party ended I went to meet Stitch near the front of the park. He often seems to have a long line in one of the four main theme parks but was all by himself at Typhoon Lagoon! Since no one was there we had a nice long interaction, which mostly consisted of Stitch stealing my things and trying to hide them…but it was fun.
Soon I was hungry and wanted to get lunch. I browsed the menus of the few dining locations in the park, and it was pretty much all the standard chicken nuggets and hot dogs. The thought of eating mediocre standard park fare while dripping wet and surrounded by half-dressed people suddenly sounded like the worst thing ever. Since Downtown Disney is right across the street, I drove there to get lunch instead.
I chose a Chicken Caesar Salad from Bodie’s All American in the Pollo Campero buliding. I had never eaten anything at Bodie’s and wanted to try their hand-tossed salads. The portion was large, and everything was fresh. It was very good. The only issue I had was that the salad wasn’t tossed very well…there were some spots that had no dressing at all. That definitely wasn’t enough to make me not want to eat there again, and I’m sure it was much better than what they were serving at Typhoon Lagoon.
