402After some time off work I was back at it yesterday with a visit to Magic Kingdom. Mostly I wanted to verify menus to see if anything changed while I was off, but I knew there were a few other changes as well. I got to the park around 9:30am and after a quick stop at Main Street Bakery for coffee I was on my way.

It felt so good to just be back in Magic Kingdom. No matter how many times I visit I never get sick of the feeling just standing on Main Street. The music, the vehicles rolling by, the view of Cinderella Castle. It really is magical. I love it so much.

274I headed into the Emporium to see if there was any new merchandise. There were a few new children’s toys and clothes featuring Sofia the First and Planes characters, but mostly not much had changed. I did notice several new iPhone cases were in stock, mostly Limited Edition and Limited Release. I really enjoy these cases that they keep putting out. They often have really great designs and make fun collectibles at a fairly reasonable price (compared to artwork, figurines, etc). I bought the it’s a small world case to add to my growing collection.

276As I headed down Main Street I noticed the Trolley was near the hub and the Dapper Dans were riding on the back serenading passengers. When the Trolley stopped I went over and asked if they were staying on for another ride, but sadly they said they were leaving. One of them noticed that I was wearing a Ninja Turtles t-shirt and asked me if I was a fan. I said they were my favorite…besides the Dans of course! They thought that was funny and asked if I would like them to sing a song just for me. What?! Of course I want a song by the Dapper Dans just for me! As they got into place and we moved into the shade they improvised a few lines of the Ninja Turtles theme song (!!) and then proceeded to perform a mini show for me in the street. At one point one of them put his hat on my head and we all took a picture together. This is one of my favorite pictures ever taken in the parks, it was such a great moment.

302Next stop was Tomorrowland. I had heard that Monsters Inc Laugh Floor had gotten even more Monsters University additions and I wanted to see for myself. The preshow area had Monsters University notices added to the bulletin boards and a poster honoring Mike and Sully’s contributions to keeping power on at the school. There was also a new segment in the actual preshow video with Art promoting the Monsters University School of Laughing. In the actual show there was a new segment featuring Sam & Ella where they discuss MU and it’s rival Gag U in a really unfunny bit that doesn’t really work at all.

332I was starting to get hungry and as I walked around looking at menus I tried to figure out something new to try. I finally decided to get the Fried Chicken Sandwich with French Fries for $8.99 at Golden Oak Outpost in Frontierland. While I was ordering I noticed a little sign by the register advertising Corn Nuggets for $3.99. Okay, I have a serious weakness for Corn Nuggets. There is just something about those little balls of deep fried sweet corn that get me every time. Obviously I had to try those as well.

The sandwich came plain but the cashier told me I could either add lettuce and tomato or just go across the way to Pecos Bill’s and use the condiment bar. I decided to go with the latter so I could not only utilize the delicious Pecos Bill’s toppings but also could get a seat in the air conditioning.

333I was pleasantly surprised with the Fried Chicken Sandwich. It was spicy and had a really good kick to it. The bun was fresh and soft and while I just topped it with mayonnaise I appreciated that I could have added all kinds of stuff to it at Pecos Bills.

Now, the Corn Nuggets. Oh my. They were heavenly. I had to wait a bit for them as they made them fresh but they were so worth it. They topped them with powdered sugar which I hadn’t seen done before…but it added some extra sweetness that I really enjoyed. It was almost like a dessert, but healthy…because corn is a vegetable, right?

360After lunch I headed back towards Fantasyland. Many attractions are getting new signs due to Fastpass+ additions, but by far my favorite of these is the Mad Tea Party sign. It’s whimsical and fun and goes well with the little bit of Wonderland decor in the area. It seems like such a small thing but themed signs are one of the things that sets Disney theme parks apart from other amusement parks.

419It was just about time to go but on the way out I stopped to take a peek at the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train construction. While it’s been really fun having the windows in the construction walls, I find myself getting frustrated with the ability to see how much is still left to be done. I’m getting so excited for this attraction and am ready for it to open already!

  • The Dapper Dans singing just for you?!? Color me envious. :)

  • Love that Small World case – even before you mentioned it, it’s the one I would have picked for myself! I’m a sucker pretty much for anything Mary Blair inspired…

I love her stuff too! There was another Mary Blair/Small World inspired case several months ago that I have as well.

  • Does anyone have any thoughts on the phone cases? I am super hard on my phone and have an otterbox case right now. It has kept it safe and sound, but the otterbox cases aren’t cute at all…Just curious what others think.

I’m hard on my phones as well. Some of the Disney cases are cheap plastic and not very protective. However most of the limited edition ones and special event cases (including all those pictured) have a protective rubber bumper on them. I drop my iphone 5 all the time…on concrete, tile, whatever, and have had no issues so far.

  • I wish they would come out with cases for android phones, Galaxy Note 2 or the S4 would be nice.

They have a couple, but not many. I think it’s harder to do android phone cases because there are so many different styles so each variation has a smaller audience. iPhones are all the same style so one case (or 2) can be used by all iPhone users.

  • Hi Susan- I have a MK Castle case for my iphone5 that I bought last summer. Its super cute but I don’t think its nearly as protective as an otterbox. The corners aren’t really covered, which is my biggest concern so I’m very very careful. Regardless, I’m totally buying the monorail case in 18days!

I had one of those for a while too. I hated that it didn’t protect the corners…especially after I dropped my phone and shattered the screen. The monorail one will be much more protective because it has a rubber bumper.

  • I would totally get an Iphone for those cases! But alas…I refuse to join the Apple bandwagon:(

When New Fantasyland reopened they did a Limited Edition Ariel case…it is completely the reason I got an iPhone. I bought the case about 3 months before I got my phone…that case is what caused me to choose iphone over a Galaxy s3.

  • Thanks all for your thoughts on the cases. I think I know what I’ll be saving some money for between now and my next trip to the parks…which is much too far away! Happy shopping to all of you. :)

  • When will the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train ride open? My family’s 1st visit will be towards the end of Nov & I was hoping it’d be running by then.
