Welcome to a special Christmas Day edition of The Magic, The Memories, and Merch! For this installment we’re going to take a look at the Grinch Christmas village items available at Islands of Adventure. These items are available at the Port of Entry Christmas Shoppe and Seuss Landing’s Gertrude McFuzz Fine Feathered Finery.
The Grinch Christmas village uses the original Dr. Seuss version of The Grinch. The houses and accessory figures have been faithfully recreated from the 1966 animated version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Chuck Jones.
To start off my collection, I decided to go with the “Feast of Roast Beast” accessory.
During Christmas season at the park all of the boxes containing the Christmas village pieces are on the sales floor, but for most of the rest of the year they are rotated out for other items. The Grinch Christmas Village displays are set up year round in glass cases, and if you’d like a piece you just need to ask a sales associate, who can get a box from the back.
I was very happy with the piece once I opened it at home. It has a lot of detail and a good amount of weight to it. The price on the display said $23.00, but it rang up at the register at $22.95. Using my preferred annual pass discount got the price down to $20.65. You can also buy many of The Grinch Christmas Village pieces on Amazon, but this Feast of Roast Beast costs $25.50 and has a $7.90 shipping charge (it is ineligible for free shipping through Amazon Prime). How many times has it ever been cheaper to buy something inside a theme park instead of Amazon?
I’m looking forward to building my collection, but I’m not sure if I’ll pick up a piece here and there over the course of going to Universal over the next few months or just make it something to look forward to as part of a yearly purchase.
