Tired of all the snow? Well, I can’t change the weather…but I can share the Disney News and Rumors and other general fun you missed for the week. (And wow…was there a lot!)
In Case You Missed It – Disney News and Rumors
Wilderness Lodge has always been one of my favorite Disney resorts. I love the feel of the lodge, the restaurants (they have Magic Cookie Bars…hello…), the geyser, the Villa area, just everything screams enchanting. So, I am pleased to hear that the Wilderness Lodge has rejoined the list of AAA four-diamond hotels.
Did you know Space Mountain first opened at Walt Disney World this week in 1975? Disney Insider had a fantastic article where they shared some wonderful photos of the construction! (PS: should I be frightened or intrigued by Spaceman Mickey?)
Star Wars and Imagineer Jason Surrell seem to go together like peanut butter and jelly. In this first blog post of his on the Star Wars Blog, you learn a bit more about his love of Star Wars. I’m excited to see what future postings will come from this great writer.
Is Disney planning a Star Wars/Pixar collaboration? That’s what Geeks of Doom says is potentially rumored to be happening in this article. What do you think?
Fly a lot to Orlando or even anywhere else? Here are some tips, according to Yahoo! Travel on ways to get a better seat. Can’t hurt to try.
In a story I never thought I’d read…apparently this past December, MetLife bought majority stakes in both the Swan and Dolphin resorts. Here’s the article from the Wall Street Journal if you want to learn more.
Feeling at bit crafty? Try your hand at making these Mary Poppins wall art pieces brought to life from Disney Style.
Planning at trip on Disney Cruise Line in 2015 (and beyond)? There’s a very good chance you may be headed to Tortola, part of the British Virgin Islands, because according to Disney Cruise Line Blog, DCL just signed a berthing deal with the BVI. It will be interesting to see what these itineraries look like when they are announced.
If you watch Saturday Night Live, than this past weekend, you would have seen the funny sketch featuring the musician Drake as a Walt Disney World Cast Member at Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular (which is found at Disney’s Hollywood Studios). If you missed it, here’s the video from Hulu. (Of course, with all sketch comedy, it may not be funny to everyone, and it’s obvious that things are stretched a bit, but I think we all understand the enthusiasm that Drake was going for, especially when things don’t always go the way a Cast Member would expect.)
Speaking of videos, I’m a sucker for old footage of Walt Disney World and this week, I came across a fun promotional video from 20 years ago that I wanted to share. (Um…seriously, fashion wise…what on EARTH were we all thinking?!)
Who doesn’t love when there’s a Disney related TV special on TV? Well, tonight, as well as a few times over the next week, make sure to tune into the Food Network for The Mauro’s Magical Disney Vacation. Watch as Jeff Mauro’s family explores their Disney Side in this all new special. (I’ve got my DVR set.)
Of course, the big news this week was all about the Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. If you’ve been keeping up with the details here, you know there was a webcast earlier this week. Attractions Magazine has the whole webcast, but if you want to see a cliff’s notes version, make sure to read Seth’s fantastic article about all the great details that were announced. (Can I just say that I’m super STOKED about Diagon Alley? I cannot wait until it opens up this Summer.)
