Disneyland Resort Crowd Report – December 28, 2014 to January 3, 2015

Last week Disneyland Resort hosted its largest crowds of the year, as expected. Disneyland Park filled to capacity almost every day and Disney California Adventure saw its highest wait times of the year.

Sunday continued the streak of days of packed parks from the week before. Both parks hit the maximum levels on our scale with only the water rides staying below a level ’10’.

More ’10’s on Monday with all but 3 of the main attractions hitting a level ’10’ on our scale. Jungle Cruise at 31 minutes, Grizzly River Run at 35 and Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree at 30 minutes were the only holdouts.

Tuesday’s crowd was equally as heavy as Sunday and Monday but slightly lower wait times at Disney California Adventure pushed that park’s level down one.

Most guests visiting Disneyland Resort on New Year’s Eve are there to see the main fireworks so wait times at Disney California Adventure lagged a couple levels behind. Of course both parks were extremely crowded none-the-less.

A great tip for guests wishing to maximize their touring during the holiday is to be among the first to arrive at the gate on New Year’s Day. Crowds can be relatively light as many guests start their day later, recovering from the night before.

The respite is short-lived however, as we saw on Friday. Space Mountain averaged 77 minutes (predicted 72) while Radiator Springs averaged 139 (predicted 137).

Saturday’s crowd may indicate that some guests began the journey home. Normally, a Saturday crowd is busier than the Thursday-Friday before.

The New Year has arrived and the parks will calm down quite a bit in the weeks to come. Guests of Disneyland Resort in January will have to watch out for the Star Wars Half Marathon event and Martin Luther King Jr Day.
