Ask It: Best Park Icon

Each of the four theme parks at Walt Disney World has its own unique icon to reflect the personality of each theme park. These icons not only exist larger than life in the theme parks, but are present in Disney media and on the My Disney Experience app. In Animal Kingdom, you’ve got the Tree of Life. Magic Kingdom has Cinderella Castle. Epcot has Spaceship Earth. And no one can forget the Studios with the giant Sorcerer Mickey hat. The Earful Tower.  The Chinese theater…or the Tower of Terror (or whatever that strange shape is in My Disney Experience).*

So now we’re asking you: What is the best park icon at Walt Disney World? Voting is open now here and on Twitter, and we’ll have the results next week on AskIt.

What is the best park icon at Walt Disney World?

  • Cinderella Castle (Magic Kingdom) (57%, 574 Votes)
  • Spaceship Earth (Epcot) (30%, 299 Votes)
  • Tree of Life (Disney's Animal Kingdom) (11%, 113 Votes)
  • Tower of Terror (Disney's Hollywood Studios) (1%, 15 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,001

*Yes, it is actually the Tower of Terror that is the official icon that Disney uses for Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Members of the TouringPlans team debated whether it was actually supposed to look somewhat like the Chinese theater that is home to the Great Movie Ride or whether a “Vacancy” sign would be a better symbol at present. We’re going with Tower of Terror, but certainly we accept write-in votes!

  • Bring back the Mickey hat!

  • I voted for spaceship earth for the same reason given by another person – to me, the castle means “Disney”, not a specific park. If it had been an option I’d have voted for the hat – not everyone hated it!

  • I voted for Spaceship Earth simply because it’s the most unique icon. When I see a castle (whether used as a computer/app icon, or generic symbol of a Disney park) I feel like it could be representing any of Disney’s Magic Kingdoms. There’s no denying which park that giant geodesic sphere represents!

  • When first built the Earful Water Tower was the icon. I think this was the best icon they ever had and I was saddened recently to learn that it was taken down for Star Wars land. I don’t Understand why they didn’t just move it, as I feel it was a good symbol of a movie lot. When I think of MGM/Studios I’ll never forget when live 101 Dalmatians came out they painted the tower white with black spots. I have a picture of that and it was one of the highlights of my trip!

  • Considering Tower of Terror is not the Icon of DHS, no wonder its going to be last.

    • Whether fair or not, Tower of Terror is the official icon of Disney’s Hollywood Studios according to Disney. It is what they use in My Disney Experience, on Disney’s web site, on Disney’s map service, and on Disney’s resort TV, among other places. Personally, I like the Chinese theater better, but it isn’t the official icon by Disney’s standards. Probably has to go back to all those legal challenges way back when.
