Things are getting exciting at the Disneyland Resort with all the new fall offerings that are being introduced at Disney California Adventure, including Cars Land’s Haul-O-Ween, Buena Vista Street getting the Oogie Boogie treatment, and more. Well, it was announced that the park’s newest attraction is also going to be getting in on the fun. Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! has been a fun addition, but during the fall, when the sun goes down, things are about to get even more interesting.

Mission: BREAKOUT! will be transformed nightly into Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. With Mission: BREAKOUT!,  Rocket finds his Guardians of the Galaxy pals trapped in the Fortress of The Collector, Taneleer Tivan, and during the day, Guests assist Rocket with a daring escape plan. During Monsters After Dark,  the action picks up moments after. Rocket has discovered that in the hurry to free his friends, they have accidentally left Groot behind. Now Rocket needs to distract all the monsters he has unleashed inside the Fortress, enlisting you, the Guest, to help while he rescues his friend.

The attraction itself will transform each night, as The Collector’s Fortress goes dark, alarms will sound and all-new lighting will be found on the exterior of the Fortress that will alert Guests that something inside has gone wrong. When Guests enter the Lobby of the Fortress, they will see flashing alarms and hear creepy sounds; all warning signs that the creatures have escaped their cages, as chaos erupts all around. The Collector’s assistant Apheta will try to keep calm by reassuring Guests that all is in order.

As far as the ride goes, we all know that music plays such an integral part of both the Guardians films, as well as in the attraction itself, so an all-new 1970s-style punk rock song has been written especially for this attraction by Tyler Bates, composer for the Guardians of the Galaxy films called “Monsters After Dark.”

Do keep in mind that Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark is a limited time experience. It will only be available during Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort from September 15 through October 31.

  • I have a few photo albums of visits to DL & WDW with family and friends. So many magic moments meeting Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan and all the princesses. So much awe and amazement in our expressions. So many warm memories.
I read this description of what was once a clever attraction (ToT) and I feel like yawning. Or just being sad. I saw both films–really enjoyed them. I guess I’m just disappointed that Disney seems too-often satisfied with shoehorning current IPs on top of existing tracks instead of truly Imagineering something fresh.
And please, no more dessert or dance parties. And you kids get off my lawn!

    • As a long time (30 years!) Disneyland pass holder I wanted to hate this ride. I was skeptical throughout the que, and unimpressed while buckling my seatbelt. The moment it started, I began to smile. And then laughed my way through the entire ride. I expected a classic with a bad paint job, but what you get is a fantastic new ride. What was once a 1930’s elevator shaft is now a intergalactic weightlessness chamber. And the thrill factor has been amplified.

Let face it. Most kids didn’t get the whole Twilight Zone theme. This is now something that is immediately recognizable by everyone in the family. And truthfully a more entertaining ride.
