Observations from the Magic Kingdom: Saturday, May 17, 2014

by on May 23, 2014

Crowd level: 6/10

Weather: High 81°F, Low 77°F,  Sunny.  *Note: The sunburn I received says it felt a lot hotter than 81.

We took a trip to the Magic Kingdom on Saturday to check on the progress of things and, because the weather was incredible, photograph the Festival of Fantasy Parade. The Magic Kingdom has been a bit difficult for me lately with all the walls and cranes and tarps, but things are getting better. First things first? The giant memories sign has been taken out of the front flower bed and the train station looks pretty fantastic.

SATURDAY SIX: Six Reasons We Love the Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade

by on March 15, 2014

This week’s SATURDAY SIX covers Six Reasons We Love the Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy Parade. Making its debut on March 9, 2014, the new “3 o’clock parade” at the Magic Kingdom sets the bar for Walt Disney World daytime parades. With elaborate floats, stunning costumes, and filled with many of our favorite Disney characters, the Festival of Fantasy Parade immediately joins the list of all time great Disney parades including Mickey’s Boo to You!, SpectroMagic, Tapestry of Nations, and Mickey’s Soundsational Parade. It is going to be hard to cut the list down, but today we’re presenting six of our favorite things about Festival of Fantasy…

# 6 – Anna and Elsa

Anna and Elsa

Frozen is not just a hit, it’s a certified smash and fresh off huge wins at the Academy Awards for Best Animation Feature and Best Song (for “Let it Go“). The main characters of the film – sisters Anna and Elsa – were added to the Princess Garden Float with their snowman friend Olaf. Disney reacting this fast to a character’s popularity is almost unprecedented but definitely needed after seeing the huge lines Anna and Elsa were drawing to their meet-and-greet at Epcot’s Norway pavilion. In fact, not long after putting Anna and Elsa into the Festival of Fantasy parade, Disney also announced the pair would be relocated to Princess Fairytale Hall at the Magic Kingdom.

The new daytime parade for the Magic Kingdom is getting its finishing touches! Called the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade, this new extravaganza is a celebration of New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. The parade will bring beloved Disney and Pixar characters front and center with innovative parade floats, a new soundtrack featuring classic favorites from Disney films, a brand new original parade song, plus incredibly stunning costumes. There will be nearly 100 performers in all that help bring this parade to life.

“The parade celebrates and pays homage to what the Magic Kingdom is all about,” said Randy Wojcik, senior show director Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Creative Entertainment. “It has the most beautiful floats, enchanting characters, vibrant costumes that come to life; and the choreography is just glorious. Yet, it is also very kinetic, relevant and powerful on a scale never seen before at Walt Disney World.”

There will be seven unique units comprised of nine spectacularly designed floats. The float by float line up includes:
