Sweet Success

by on August 31, 2007

The Fountain View restaurant in Epcot has been trying a new menu offering ice cream cones, sundaes, shakes, and floats as noted in our previous updates. The location has proven very successful in this format, and though nothing is finalized, the operating hours have been extended to 12:30 to 8:30pm for the shop. Now you can have a cone from high noon to twilight.

Fountainview becomes Ice Cream shop

by on August 18, 2007

Our beloved, but ill-fated Fountainview restaurant in Epcot’s Future World has been given a reprise from its recent death sentence. Though the exterior is still being stripped of it’s semi-cylindrical canopies (most likely as part of a larger overhaul of Innoventions plaza) the restaurant will attempt to operate again.

During an upcoming test phase, the location will offer Edy’s ice cream in cones and waffle bowls, as well as offering some shakes and floats. This is a much requested addition to Epcot’s food offerings and should prove popular. However, it is only in a “test” period to gauge guest response.

If you want the Fountainview to remain open and you want ice cream – go buy a cone.

Character Spot Opening Date

by on April 11, 2007

Epcot’s Character Spot, which will provide an interactive character greeting area themed to the original Epcot Future World pavilions (communication, energy, land, transportation, and space) is scheduled to open in June. It replaces the Chracter Connection and will be housed in the former Pasta Piazza restaurant location behind the Fountainview Cafe.

Also, it is currently unknown if the Fountainview Cafe will return to service once construction of the new venue is completed.

A look inside the Fountain View

by on June 28, 2006

The Fountain View Epresso and Bakery, overlooking Epcot’s Fountain of Nations, operates on limitted hours from park opening until 1pm (which is “coincidentally” when crowds begin to shift from Future World to World Showcase.)

As a quick stop to grab a pastry or light breakfast items (savory breakfast pockets and croissant sandwiches flesh out the otherwise pastry-exclusive menu), the Fountain View provides a coffee-shop atmosphere and a retreat from the crowds within Epcot’s central walkways. Seating is provided at tables and a long circular bar surrounding the kitchen and prep areas. The full original Innoventions music loop plays at this location.

An onstage kitchen is used to make fresh pastries, with most items covered on the Disney Dining Plan as a snack feature, and prices per item typically around $5 – not an excellent value, but the food is high quality.

We give the Fountain View Espresso and Bakery a C+ rating for its high priced, but beautiful desserts. Lines are short after opening, but begin to grow from 10am to 11am, peaking just before lunchtime.

Disney Dining Plan Expands Snack Offerings

by on May 4, 2006

The Disney Dining Plan, which may be purchased as part of a WDW vacation package, has expanded it’s snack selection.

Previously, guests were limitted severely in what could be purchased as a “snack” option under the plan, mostly ice cream novelties from carts, bags of chips, and of course waters or sodas.

Under the expanded definition of “snack” guests can now purchase most any non-alcoholic beverage, bakery item, or foodstuff under roughly $4 from a WDW cart and counter service location. Any qualifying item will be marked with a Disney Dining Plan icon.

A few of the more interesting additions include:

Dole Whips and Pineapple Floats at Aloha Isle
Giant Pretzels from Sommerfest at Epcot.

And all of the following items from the Fountainview Cafe in Epcot:

Croissants, Plain/Cinnamon/Chocolate Pecan
Bagel w/ Cream cheese

Fruit or Cheese Pastry

Muffins

Chocolate Chip Cookie
Chocolate Truffle Cake
Soarin’ Orange Creme Brulee
Chocolate Mousse
Fresh Fruit Croissant
Fresh Fruit Cup
Coconut Flan
Fruit Tulip
Boston Cream
Fountainview Cheesecake
Butterfinger Cheesecake
No Sugar Cheesecake
No Sugar Brownie
