SATURDAY SIX: The Six Best Snacks in Epcot’s World Showcase

by on June 6, 2015

This week’s SATURDAY SIX takes a look at the Six Best Snacks in Epcot’s World Showcase. By now you know we love theme park snacks. From the iconic Mickey Bar and Dole Whip at the Magic Kingdom to the outrageous Brain Freezin’ D’oh-nut Sundae in Springfield USA, we can’t get enough. Today we are going to the holy land of all dining in Walt Disney World, Epcot’s World Showcase. Yes, you know about the incredible restaurants like Via Napoli and bars such as La Cava del Tequila, but we are going to take a look at the underrated dining aspect of World Showcase: the snack department. Everyone has their favorite, so let’s start off the list with….

# 6 – Hand Twisted Pretzel – (Germany)

No offense to the Mickey pretzel but this is THE pretzel to get in Walt Disney World. A hand twisted pretzel in Germany is in fact almost the perfect snack because it’s; A) Easy to eat while touring the park B) Big enough to share C) Is something almost everyone in your party can enjoy D) Goes great with an ice cold beer. Good news on the last point because as luck would have it Germany is also one of the best places to get a beer in World Showcase. How convenient! While we recommend the Oktoberfest brew, you can’t go wrong with the Grapefruit Beer either.

Menu Monday: The Best World Showcase Pavilions for Drinking

by on February 9, 2015

Enjoy the details in Epcot's World Showcase - Torii gate in Japan (Photo by Sarah Graffam)

Whether you’re attempting to drink around the world or simply want to stop in at one of your favorite spots in World Showcase, there’s no denying that Epcot is a great place to kick back and have a few. A lot of that has to do with the fact that you can take in the sights and sounds of different cultures from around the world in a single day. Many park guests have made it their mission to have a drink in every single one of the World Showcase countries in one day, which isn’t a task to take lightly. If you’d rather just sample a drink or two and need help prioritizing which countries to hit up, you’re in the right place. Below you’ll find my list of the best countries to drink in at World Showcase in Epcot. When I originally set out to do this list, I was going to rank all the pavilions from best to worst but found that a lot of my descriptions were the same because frankly there isn’t that much to do in a lot them drinking wise besides take in the architecture, walk around the gift shop and move on. With that in mind, I decided to limit the list to the five best pavilions.

I based my rankings on five categories. Each category is scored on a 5-point scale, so there is a total possible score of 25 points. The categories are:

Drink Selection

This category focuses on the amount of different drinks available in the pavilion and whether or not they’re any good.

Welcome once again to Menu Monday, where we explore what packaged edibles Disney offers. We are traveling around the World Showcase, stopping in at each country to give an interesting and unusual (and hopefully tasty!) snack a try. We have already visited Japan, Canada, United Kingdom, and France. Today we are checking out what snacks are available in Germany. Before we get started heading around the Showcase, let’s remember the rules:

Snack Rules

  • No snacks over $10; preferably less than $5
  • As unusual as possible
  • Something I personally would eat

Let’s go find some snacks from Germany!

A Trip Around The World: Germany

by on December 27, 2013

Today we’re taking a look at Germany on our next stop around the World Showcase. If you’re just joining us, you might want to visit Mexico, Norway, and China first. I’m sure a few people will catch that I omitted the Adventure Outpost area in between China and Germany. I really don’t understand what it is other than some drums and an ice cream stand. I don’t think it’s a great tribute to any land – so I left it out! Once you’re past this confused little area you’ll start heading into what looks like a storybook, starting with Snow White’s Wishing Well.

The Magic, The Memories, and Merch! November 2013 Photo Report of the Disney Outlet Store

by on November 29, 2013

MMM positiveToday is not just any day. Today is Black Friday. The official beginning to the Christmas shopping season. A day of bargains, lines, and absolute terror excitement. There couldn’t be a better day to lather ourselves up in pixie dust, strap on our Jessie cowgirl hat, and put on our Mickey Mouse “Hang Loose” shirt as we head out for our monthly photo report of the Disney Outlet Store.

You may remember last month that the outlet stores started selling 2013 merchandise at a deep discount, and this month a whole bunch of 2013 branded items joined the clearance rack including pins, graduation hats, basketballs, and laptop covers.

Drinking Around the World… Again

by on June 23, 2009

Last week I wrote about the first leg of our drinking around the world adventure.

Please refer to this link to read the first part of this report: http://blog.touringplans.com/2009/06/16/drinking-around-the-world/ This time around Don had to go to work so Julie, Tom, and I set out to scratch a few more countries off of our list. We also stuck to beer on this portion of the journey. So without further ado, here are the details of our second day of drinking around the world.

Our first stop was Lotus Blossom Café in the China pavilion to grab some snacks and beer. This location offers Tsing Tao, plum wine, and a few American beer options. Since we were trying to experience the cultural options around World Showcase we all opted for the Tsing Tao to go along with our egg rolls. The beer was light and refreshing on a hot day. I would definitely stop in here again to grab a beer before watching the acrobats or continuing around the World Showcase.

After our relaxing stop in China, we backtracked to Norway. A cart in this pavilion sells Carlsberg beer native to Norway. Kringla Bakeri og Café also offers Carlsberg along with other tasty sweet treats. We just hung out near the water and enjoyed our beers. While I’ve had this one before, there were not many Scandinavian options. Luckily, I like Carlsberg so it made for a yummy stop on the tour. After finishing up and taking a ride on Maelstrom, it was off to the next country.

Our next stop was one of my favorite pavilions, Germany. Sommerfest serves an assortment of beers from Deutschland. We all picked Beck’s to try. Maybe it’s the German girl in me, but I always like this beer. Julie and Tom also agreed that it was a good choice. It may have been wise to also get a pretzel to sop up all that alcohol! We’ll have to remember that next time.

We skipped over Italy to hit the American Adventure. The Fife and Drum Tavern serves Turkey Legs, other snacks, and of course beer. The draft beer options include Bud Light, Samuel Adams, and a seasonal selection. Being a northeasterner I love Sam Adams and I was going to get that, but the seasonal selection was Beach Bum Blonde Ale.  It was light, like Corona or Landshark, and we all loved it. This was the last stop on today’s tour mostly because after our American beer we were too tipsy to continue. It was a hot day and we hadn’t had a lot to eat so it was a slippery slope.

Next week I’ll finish my report up our drinking trip around World Showcase…
