With Halloween this week, it’s time to get in the ghostly spirit. This week’s Limited Time Magic does just that.

At Walt Disney World from October 28 – November 1, guests will be able to have an eerie time at The Happy Haunted Horseshoe in Frontierland at the Magic Kingdom. (Otherwise known throughout the rest of the year as The Diamond Horseshoe.) The hall has been redecorated for the holiday in a spooktacular manner.

From 11 am – 3 pm, guests are invited to join hostess Miss Betty Blue, as she presents some hauntingly good entertainment including the barbershop quartet, The Cadaver Dans, the piano playing Dearly Departed Stan, and magician Abner Cadaver. Guests will be able to grab a Halloween inspired treat, including a special cupcake.

Over at Disneyland, The Cadaver Dans will be sharing their terrorific tunes in front of The Haunted Mansion in New Orleans Square. Performances will take place from October 28 – November 3. Check a Times Guide for exact show times.

This will be a frightfully good experience. Just make sure that one of these ghouls doesn’t follow you home.

Free “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad” Screening for Disneyland Annual Passholders on 10/3/13

by on October 1, 2013

Sleepy Hollow may be a hot new television series from FOX, but Disney told Washington Irving’s tale of the Headless Horseman long before Kurtzman & Orci got in on the act. If you are an Anaheim Annual Passholder, you can relive the 1949 animated anthology The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad this Thursday inside Disneyland’s Main Street Opera House.

Screenings are at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on October 3. A valid Disneyland AP is required, and space is limited, so you must register in person and retrieve a wristband beginning at noon. See here for full details on this “Limited Time Annual Passholder Magic” event.

Disney Infinity Annual Passholder Preview Tomorrow at Disneyland’s Innoventions

by on August 5, 2013

Image copyright Disney

Are you ready to take your home video game console to infinity…and beyond? Disney Infinity, this seasons’s most eagerly awaited videogame release, promises to integrate “sandbox” style open-world gameplay with Skylanders-style physical toys, creating a universe where characters as diverse as Jack Sparrow and Jack Skellington can virtually coexist.

The game and its associated figurines go on sale to the public on August 18, but Disneyland Annual Passholders can get an early preview tomorrow night (Tuesday, 8/6/2013). From 5pm to 10pm, APs get exclusive access to the Xbox 360 area of Tomorrowland’s Innoventions attraction, which will be devoted to Disney Infinity for the next few months. You’ll also get to meet members of the game’s development team, and maybe find a few other surprises.

No advance registration is required for this Limited Time Magic event, but space is limited so you will need to show your valid AP at the attraction entrance.

Annual Passholder Anniversary Presentations at Disneyland This Month

by on July 1, 2013

Disneyland's grand opening (1955)

It may not be the kind of round-number milestone that attracts massive media attention, but this month's 58th anniversary of Disneyland is well worth celebrating — and hey, the park doesn't look a day over 50! Starting today, Annual Passholders visiting the Anaheim resort on the next few Tuesdays have an opportunity to attend special presentations saluting the five lands that debuted at Walt's original Magic Kingdom.

Passholders attending Disneyland Park tomorrow (7/2), next Tuesday (7/9), or the following Tuesday (7/16) can register for either of two daily sessions (5:30pm or 7:30pm) held inside the Main Street USA Opera House. Disney artist Stacia Martin will be on hand to show off historical snapshots and videos from the park's formative years. Each week different original lands from the park are highlighted; the schedule of topics is as follows:

  • July 2, 2013: Adventureland & Frontierland
  • July 9, 2013: Fantasyland & Tomorrowland
  • July 16, 2013: Main Street, U.S.A. & Disneyland in 1955

The presentations or free for all with valid annual passes, but space is limited so same-day registration is required. See all the details on the Limited Time Magic event here on Disneyland's website.

Disneyland Debate: Where Do Billy Hill and the Hillbillies Belong?

by on March 4, 2013

It’s no secret that many of us here at Touring Plans are big fans of Billy Hill and the Hillbillies; in the 2013 Unofficial Guide to Disneyland we give their musical comedy show 4 1/2 stars and call it “not to be missed.” Originally a street show created for the opening of Critter Country in 1989, the Hillbillies have been the most frequently featured act in the Golden Horseshoe Saloon since the Golden Horseshoe Jamboree ended its run in December of 1994.

While the Hillbillies have had the Horseshoe stage to themselves for most of the last 17 years (with the exception of Woody’s Round-Up’s run from 1999 to 2000), lately they’ve been on the move. Over the summer, they were shuffled out to the arena stage behind Big Thunder Ranch as part of a seasonal promotion, while the Laughing Stock Co. improv players took their place. More recently, Billy and the boys returned to Big Thunder for the Limited Time Magic resurrection of the beloved Golden Horseshoe Revue, albeit in the form of a “Salute” tribute show.

Peter Pan Passholder Event at Disneyland this Wednesday

by on February 25, 2013

All images copyright Disney

Are you a Disneyland Resort Annual Passholder?

Do you love the Disney animated classic Peter Pan?

Would you like to spend a couple extra hours in Fantasyland this week?

If your answer to the following questions is “all of the above,” head over to Disneyland on Wednesday night (February 27, 2013) for the latest Limited Time Magic event. For one night only, Passholders can see a special screening of Peter Pan at the Main Street Opera House, in honor of the film’s recent Blu-ray release.

As an added bonus, select Fantasyland attractions will be open to participating Passholders for 2 additional hours past the park’s public 8pm closing time. Be warned, however, that my recent experience with extended Passholder hours at Disney California Adventure did not result in light crowds and short queues; in fact, it was exactly the opposite.

Film screening start at 11am on Wednesday. Passholders may register for the event in person at the Opera House beginning at 10am on the day of the event; online and advance registration is not offered. See here for details on the event direct from Disney.
