Guests will soon have a new Disney Princess to meet. Princess Elena from the upcoming Disney Channel show “Elena of Avalor” will begin meeting Guests this August at the Magic Kingdom.

While we don’t necessarily know a lot about Elena yet, we do know that she is a bold princess who’s love for her family and kingdom takes her on magical adventures. She is a confident and compassionate teenager in an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore and therefore, she is the first Disney Princess inspired by Latin diversities.

She will debut in a special episode of “Sofia the First” on Disney Junior next year, which will then translate into her own spin-off series. Elena is voiced by Aimee Carrero, of Freeform’s “Young & Hungry.”

“Elena of Avalor” is scheduled to debut on the Disney Channel on August 1.

Stay tuned to the blog for more details on when you and your little one can meet Princess Elena.

If you love to meet characters, get ready for some great changes taking place soon at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

To start with, for the first time, well ever, Guests will be able to meet the huggable Olaf. Olaf will be located in the Echo Lake area at the all-new “Celebrity Spotlight.” He’ll be found chilling on the beach waiting for lots of warm hugs. This Celebrity Spotlight location will likely see rotating characters as time goes on. The chance to meet Olaf is currently open ended for now though.

Also, moving around again, will be Mickey and Minnie. These two will be meeting in an area known as “Mickey and Minnie Starring in Red Carpet Dreams.” They will be found off of Commissary Lane, near Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant. At this greeting area, Guests will be able celebrate the glitz and glam of Hollywood by walking the red carpet and stepping into a scene with Hollywood Starlet Minnie. After that, Guests will then be able to find Mickey portraying the infamous Sorcerer’s Apprentice from Fantasia.

These two new meet and greet opportunities are expected to debut sometime this spring.

Kongstruction continues as Skull Island takes shape at Islands of Adventure. (photos by Seth Kubersky)

It’s been about six weeks since our last Kongstruction update, and progress on the exterior of Universal Orlando’s newest E-Ticket is still progressing rapidly.

Rumor has it that the yet-unannounced Islands of Adventure attraction may be titled Skull Island: Reign of Kong, and it appears on track for a 2016 debut.

Here’s our latest collection of construction photos, all taken (as always) from guest accessible locations.

First, a look at the King Kong project site from the Toon Lagoon side:

Big Hero 6

This year’s follow up to the smash hit Frozen is called Big Hero 6. The movie follows Hiro Hamada, a robotics prodigy, who finds himself in a criminal plot to destroy the city of San Fransokyo. Hiro must transform his robotic companion, Baymax, as well as a few other friends, into high-tech heroes to save the day and their city.

To help to promote the movie, beginning this Fall, guests will have the opportunity to meet both Hiro and Baymax. According to Disney, the two will be found at both Disneyland Resort and the Walt Disney World Resort. Currently, no location or beginning date has been given for the meet and greet opportunities, but it should be released soon and I’ll make sure to keep you posted.

To find out a little bit more about the characters, make sure to check out the recently released movie trailer. (Baymax looks like he will be squishy! I cannot wait to hug him!) Big Hero 6 debuts in theaters on November 7.

Frozen Out: Searching for an Elsa doll at Disney World

by on April 10, 2014

Elsa doll Disney World

Searching for an Elsa doll or toy at Disney World? Join the club! (Photos by Seth Kubersky)

My family up north doesn’t necessarily share or understand my theme park obsessions, but every so often they call upon my Orlando expertise. Recently, my young niece lost her mind over Frozen (much like half of America, it seems) and wants an Elsa doll more than life itself.

Unfortunately, it seems Barbie-sized “Sparkle Princess” figures of this frigid sister are scarcer than snowmen in summer, as toy stores throughout the New York and Philadelphia regions are chronically out of stock. So I gallantly volunteered to play the heroic uncle by finding one and bringing it to her during my upcoming visit. Surely it would be simple to find an Elsa doll inside one of Walt Disney World’s infinite gift shops…or so I foolishly thought.

I was so wrong.

FastPass+ Tips for Annual Pass Vouchers and Frozen Meet and Greet

by on March 25, 2014

As I’ve detailed in my recent blog posts, navigating Walt Disney World now that FastPass+ has fully rolled out for Annual Passholders is a whole new adventure that seems to evolve on a daily basis. Here are some updated FastPass+ tips on two of the hottest topics among users of My Disney Experience and the associated MyMagic+ programs: Annual Pass vouchers and the new Frozen meet and greet.

One of the most frequently asked questions in the comments to my recent blog posts has been if Annual Pass vouchers that have not yet been activated can be tied to a My Disney Experience account for FastPass+ access. This is important to guests who wish to purchase an annual pass in advance of their visit to make FastPass+ reservations without having the 365-day timer on their ticket start ticking until their arrival. Multiple readers have reported inputing their voucher number as a linked admission pass in My Disney Experience, and being unsuccessful in attempts to then make FastPass+ reservations.

Thor: Treasures of Asgard Exhibit Opens in Disneyland’s Innoventions on November 1

by on September 19, 2013

Early this spring, Disneyland introduced their newly-purchased Marvel superheroes to their Anaheim resort in the form of a Stark Industries exhibit at Disneyland’s Innoventions, featuring an Xbox-based virtual experience in Iron Man’s iconic power suit. Starting November 1, the gradual Marvelization of Tomorrowland continues as Stark is joined in Innoventions by his thunder-god pal Thor.

Thor: Treasures of Asagard is an exhibit promoting the November 8th theatrical release of Thor: The Dark World, the second feature film starring Chris Hemsworth as the Nordic immortal. The conceit is that astrophysicist Jane Foster (played in the films by Natalie Portman) has determined that the Bifrost inter-dimensional portal will reopen inside the Innoventions building, and has invited guests to observe its appearance.
