MGM may have new ride on the horizon

Rumors have begun to circulate strongly suggesting a new ride coming to Disney MGM Studios in the next few years. The new ride, tenatively labeled Midway Madness, will have a connection to the Toy Story franchise and feature interactive elements and possibly 3D technology. A clone of the project is expected to be built in Disney’s California Adventure theme park as well, with the MGM version replacing Who Wants to Be a Millionaire: Play It!

Walls up for Asian Restaurant construction

Construction walls now stretch from the Caravan Stage (for Flights of Wonder) all the way to Kali River Rapids to allow work to begin on the new Asian-themed restaurant being built in Animal Kingdom. This restaurant is expected to debut in 2007. The Chakranadi Chicken Shop in this area has closed permanently.

Minor work in Epcot

A new construction wall has popped up in Epcot, on the bridge leadin into the Land pavilion. The nearby ponds are also drained, suggesting some sort of structural work on the bridge.

New MGM Character Meal Starts Soon

A quick reminder for anyone who may have forgotten. The new character meal at Hollywood and Vine at Disney MGM Studios called “Playhouse Disney’s Play ‘N Dine at Hollywood & Vine” will begin June 25th.

The meals will feature characters from Jo Jo and Goliath and Little Einsteins for breakfast and lunch. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

Mainstreet Athletic Club reopens from Refurb

After breif period of refurbishment, the Mainstreet Athletic Club has reopened with a new “upscale” country club boutique look and feel.

The general merchandise selection is the same, and a nice addition is the trophy room.

Inside, you’ll find subtle nods to Disney history, including this tribute to Disneyland’s 50th anniversary.

TS Alberto came and went quietly

Despite some zealous weathermen, Tropical Storm Alberto came and went for Walt Disney World with merely some thunderstorms and much needed rain. In the afternoon, the grass was greener and all was peaceful in the land.

Seas Work in Full Swing

Refurbishment of the Living Seas exterior mural is now in full swing, with work happening during regular park hours. The sound of electric saws and hammers banging can be heard through Future World West at Epcot.

Some fairly large holes are now visible in the mural beyond the construction walls, as seen above. The final fate of the entrance walkway mural is unknown, with rumors ranging from upgrades to full demolition.

The Laugh Floor Comedy Club confirmed to replace Timekeeper

During the events surrounding the launch of the Year of a Million Dreams promotion, Disney officially announced the new Monsters Inc attraction in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland.

The new attraction will be called The Laugh Floor Comedy Club and is described as follows: “Guests find the power of laughter in an engaging and interactive new adventure inspired by Disney-Pixar’s “Monsters, Inc.” as they match wits with the one-eyed hero Mike Wazowski and his friends.” It is set to open in Spring 2007.
