Who cares if Halloween is this week, it’s already Christmas time at Walt Disney World!

The Osborne Spectacle of Lights is being installed as we speak and they are working through the night to add whimsical lights to Cinderella Castle. Those projects will be complete in the coming weeks, but the first guest area for Christmas-themed-enjoyment has already opened.

A new Christmas-themed shop has overtaken the eastern World Showcase Plaza store. The new store features tons of Christmas trees, garland, and twinkle lighting, along with tons of Disney holiday merchandise to purchase. Even the exterior windows have been given an overlay full of holiday cheer.

UPDATE: Spaceship Earth closure extended to February

by on October 26, 2007

Spaceship Earth, which was scheduled to reopen from a five month refurbishment and renovation project in mid-November, is now scheduled to remain closed through February 18th, 2008.

Rumors for the cause delay vary greatly, but the most prominent states that the design team had no intention of being ready for a Thanksgiving opening and that the operations schedule was simply incorrect.

We’ll keep you updated on the status of the attraction and if there are any signs of it opening before or after the currently stated February 19th reopening.

Contemporary Construction Update

by on October 20, 2007

The new shop on the 4th floor concourse of the Contemporary is coming together.

The large iconic mickey ears have not been installed yet, but the display cases are beginning to take shape.

The shop should offer merchandise similar to the now defunct Fantasia store where the arcade is now installed. Also noteworthy, permits have been filed to begin work on the new restaurant on the first floor, and the temporary Tempo Grab n’ Go serves flatbread pizza which we found quite yummy.

Elsewhere, the below picture clearly shows that they’re not putting in supports for a connection walkway between the old Contemporary tower’s 4th floor and the new not-a-DVC-building. (Yes, we’re being sarcastic.)
