Super Bowl Effects On Disney Crowd Calendar

by on January 30, 2008

The latest crowd calendar update for February 2009 includes an adjustment for the National Football League’s Super Bowl XLIII to be held in Tampa, Florida on 1 February, 2009. The last Super Bowl to be held in Tampa was in 2001, and Orlando was used as backup lodging for families who could not find hotels in Tampa. We expect similar crowds in 2009.

Flower and Garden to use Wonders pavilion

by on January 30, 2008

The upcoming Flower and Garden festival at Epcot will host events in the Wonders of Life pavilion, much as this past Food and Wine festival did. Body Wars and Cranium Command are not expected to be open while the main area of the pavilion is used for the event.

In related news, Body Wars and Cranium Command have dropped off the WDW calendar, suggesting the company essentially considers them to no longer exist.

Narnia no more?

by on January 30, 2008

After previously being listed for several months of refurbishment, the Narnia walk-through has vanished from the operations schedule and from the attraction listings at the Studios park. Also, the photo-op outside the building has vanished and all traces of the attraction have seemingly vanished. Anyone know if it’s gone permanently or just until Toy Story Mania work concludes?

The Ghiradelli Soda Fountain in Downtown Disney Marketplace will undergo renovation through March. The location will remain open during the work.

Monsters on the Move

by on January 30, 2008

The Monsters Inc meet and greet in Disney Hollywood Studios has been removed from Commissary Lane and the back side of ABC theater. Their new home is at the exit of the Backlot Tour. Mike and Sully vacated their old home so that the backstage areas of the ABC theater can once again be used for a permanent production.

Spaceship Earth Details

by on January 30, 2008

Though rumored early during the refurbishment, the option for guests to choose the language of their narration never surfaced during the preview opening of the attraction. According to the latest press releases, the option to choose will be available after the official February reopening.

Rumors also persist that the new ending is getting a long and hard look from Imagineering and may be modified from the current less-then-stellar incarnation.

Waste Management Details

by on January 30, 2008

Details of the new Waste Management area of Innoventions have been release. There, guests visiting the pavilion will have the opportunity to virtually experience the operations on a single-stream recycling line, feed the boiler at a waste-to-energy facility and run the bulldozer at a landfill in a hands-on, interactive exhibit called “Don’t Waste It.” In a fun and entertaining way, families will have the ability to calculate the amount of garbage they produce in a year and then have the responsibility to dispose of it safely and in ways that enhance the environment.

Imagination work more then meets the eye?

by on January 30, 2008

In addition to an earlier permit specifying the work on fixtures, screens, curtains, lights, etc… in the Imageworks during the current closure, Imagineering has filed a permit for “Imagination Demolition.”

Sources are saying this new permit is the first of many which will result in a redesign of the entire pavilion. The extent of the work culminating in a new ride and show rather then the dated Imagination Institute theme.

Some rumors even suggest the return of the Dream Port theme. Forgot what exactly that is? Here’s a good collection of Youtube videos to refresh your memory.

Flower and Garden brings life to Wonders

by on January 22, 2008

The annual Epcot Flower and Garden Festival will host events in the abandoned (empty, decrepit, rundown, forgotten, desolate – take your pick) Wonders of Life pavilion in Future World East.

Forgotten where that is or what that is? It’s the big golden dome between Mission: SPACE and the Universe of Energy which is the home of several attractions which have not been open to the public in almost 2 years. The attractions (Body Wars, Cranium Command, and Making of Me) are not anticipated to reopen during the use of the pavilion for the festival.

The Wonders of Life was previously Epcot’s most popular and successful attraction when it first opened.
