Cars Land - Featuring Radiator Springs Racers

Disney just announced that June 15, 2012, will mark the grand opening of Cars Land, Buena Vista Street and the Carthay Circle Theatre in Disney California Adventure at Disneyland Resort. With the opening of these two new lands and Disney California Adventure’s new icon, the multi-billion dollar, five year makeover of Disney California Adventure will be complete.

Cars Land is set to open with several shops and restaurants, and a trio of attractions, including its E-Ticket, Radiator Springs Racers. This attraction is rumored to be the most expensive theme park attraction ever-created, with bloodlines from Test Track at Walt Disney World. Radiator Springs Racers is high-speed “race” with another car full of guests through Ornament Valley and the town of Radiator Springs.

The other land opening June 15 is Buena Vista Street, Disney California Adventure’s answer to Main Street, USA. Buena Vista Street is themed to 1920s Los Angeles when Walt Disney first arrived in California. The only “attraction” in Buena Vista Street will be the Red Car Trolleys, inspired by the transportation system that once served Southern California, but the land is exciting, nonetheless, as it sets the stage for the “new” Disney California Adventure much like Main Street, USA is the opening act for Disneyland and other Disneyland-style parks. At the end of Buena Vista Street is Carthay Circle Theatre, which is modeled after the site of the 1937 world premiere of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” Carthay Circle Theatre will include a lounge and Carthay Circle Restaurant.

Also opening this summer in Disney California Adventure will be the new Mad T Party, a nighttime dance party inspired by Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland,” in Hollywood Land and the new Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop at Pacific Wharf.

We’ve been watching the changes unfold at Disney California Adventure, from the opening of Toy Story Mania to the debut of World of Color to Ariel’s first Undersea Adventure, and are quite excited to see Disney California Adventure complete its extensive construction and overhaul. This summer should be wild and busy at Disney California Adventure (make sure to pack your Touring Plan!), and we’ll be there to provide you updates on all of the new attractions and lands as they open!

  • We went last year the week after Star Wars and the Little Mermaid opened. The crowds weren’t bad at all. We are going this year over the week of June 19. Do you think it will be a lot worse than last year with the Star Wars and Little Mermaid opening? We have a two day park hopper and I was hoping to go to Disney the 20 and 21. Grad nites are in there too. I’m a little scared! It was the only time my husband could take in vacation.

  • We’re going to be visiting DLR for the first time in July. I won the One More Disney Day sweepstakes and we chose DL for our trip, since we’ve been to WDW several times. We are so excited and the fact that Carsland will be open is even better!

  • How soon after June 15th can we expect an updated DCA Touring Plan to include Cars Land? Any news about a one day two-park DLR Touring Plan? Or optimized Disneyland Touring Plans? Thanks!

  • We already have a trip planned for that week. How is this going to effect your predictions for the crowd calendar? Currently the beginning of the week is set at a 6, while the 14th is a 3 and the 15th a 5. Are you going to be changing these numbers in lou of the announcement? Thanks!

    • I just saw on All Ears that DCA will be closed on June 14th to “accommodate a media preview and make final preparations for the opening”. http://land.allears.net/blogs/dnews/2012/03/disneylands_cars_land_and_buen_1.html

I did not see this in the info released from Disney yesterday. We were there last year during the Little Mermaid opening and there were areas around the attraction that were closed. I guess this opening is a lot larger so maybe they do have to close the park.
