The Characters in Flight balloon (operated by Aerophile) found in the Downtown Disney West Side has been removed until further notice, essentially overnight, from the area while it undergoes an inspection.

The inspection comes after a similar balloon at Ocean Park in Hong Kong plunged 60 meters towards the ground. According to reports, the accident happened on Thursday afternoon, when the balloon sprung a leak as it was coming down to the ground to land. Five people were injured as a result of the fall.

All balloons from the Aerophile company that are found on Disney properties are being inspected as the accident involved a balloon that is similar to the one that is found at Downtown Disney. In addition, the one at Disneyland Paris has also been closed for inspection.

The attraction has also essentially been removed from Disney’s website, with the page requested not being able to be found.

I saw this coming months ago, they started by fireing the maintenace team(important) budget costs were the excusse they used , but what really was going on was that the balloon was in very bad shape the envelope needed to be changed ( 33k) and they fired me after three years of telling them their would be an accident if not replaced..
