How Did the Crowd Calendar Do?

For the first time in a long time the crowds at Universal Orlando Resort matched the crowd levels we saw at Disney World. Last week, Universal saw ‘8’s and ‘9’s each day except for Sunday and Saturday which hit a level ‘7’.

Lucky number ‘7’s across the board last Sunday. Universal Studios had one attraction hit a level ’10’ on our scale, Revenge of the Mummy at 27 minutes while Jurassic Park, Popeye & Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges and Poseidon’s Fury all hit level ’10’s at Islands of Adventure.

Dragon Challenge had an average wait time of only 5 minutes on Monday and Flight of the Hippogriff averaged only 6 minutes. These kept the Islands of Adventure crowd level a couple points below what the Universal Crowd Calendar predicted.

Tuesday’s crowds were level ‘9’ at both parks, a typical summer day at Universal. Several attractions hit wait time levels that measure ’10’ out of ’10’ on our attraction level scales. Most notable were Spider-Man and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls at 80 minutes each.

Wednesday brought more extreme crowds to both Universal parks although Universal Studios was the busier of the two. Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit averaged 85 minutes and Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem averaged a remarkable 113 minutes.

As busy as the rest of the week had been at Universal Studios, Thursday’s wait times went a level higher. We saw average wait times of 31 minutes at Men In Black, 33 at Revenge of the Mummy, 36 at Shrek 4-D and 37 at The Simpsons Ride – all level ’10’s.

Friday brought some relief for Universal guests but both parks were still quite busy. Rip Ride Rockit averaged 76 minutes while The Incredible Hulk Coaster averaged 57.

Saturday’s crowds ended up being the lowest of the week although the parks were still crowded. Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem still averaged over 100 minutes and most of Islands of Adventure water rides hit level ’10’ on our scale.

How Crowded is Universal?

July crowds have been steady at Universal after some relatively quiet stretches through May and June. We expect Universal parks to be busy until mid to late August when students begin to head back to school.
