Walt Disney World Resort Preview – Week of July 15th

I’m starting a new column ya’ll!

Every week, I’ll be giving you the 411 on all the happenings going on at Walt Disney World!

Park hours? Check. Crowd Levels? Check. Special events? Check!

All you need to do is meet me here every Thursday for your weekly preview. Now let’s get started!

Special Events

  • iCan the Showbot will be featured at Magic Kingdom park now through late August. Head to Tomorrowland (in the Rockettower Plaza area) to snap a photo!
  • Have you witnessed “Disney Movie Magic” at Disney’s Hollywood Studios? This show uses projection mapping on the front of Grauman’s Chinese Theatre to dazzle guests with nostalgic scenes from iconic Disney films. Experience this show-stopper nightly throughout the summer.
  • Boogie to the “Beat the Heat DJ Dance Party” at Disney Springs! Enjoy music and dancing between Earl of Sandwich and Once Upon a Toy from 1:00pm – 5:00pm, and 6:00pm – 10:00pm.
  • Also at Disney Springs, starting July 15 and running through July 30, it’s time for Christmas in July. Santa will be there for photos (dressed for summer, of course), and there will be holiday decorations and holiday food and drink available for purchase.

This is really great! I will certainly be checking this out each week. A couple of questions for the author: 1. What do the colors mean in the crowd level bar graph? Yellow vs. orange? 2. What are you using to populate the weather forecast? I am a meteorologist and I have often entertained the idea of doing specific forecasts for WDW in blog form. While the weather in Orlando can be quite the same day in and day out, there are variations that can be predicted. For example, next week will likely not have a 60% chance of rain each day. But, anyway, nice work. Thanks!

I used weather.com but noticed that the forecast changed since I made the graph. Thanks to you, I’ve updated it and have reposted it. I’ll be sure to add weather last minute in the future to make sure it’s as accurate as possible.

Thank you for all of you help!

As for the colors in the crowd level graph, the hotter the color, the ‘hotter’ the crowd levels.

Blues and greens represent low crowd levels, yellow means moderate and orange and red are the most crowded.

Ok, but then why is Saturday showing a yellow bar with a crowd level of 6 and Monday is dark orange with a crowd level of 6? They are the same crowd level, shouldn’t they be the same color?

          • July 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm

Valid Question. That was a slip of the mouse while making the graph. Monday should be yellow.

Updated the graph to make Monday yellow. Thanks again!

I agree that this is very useful. It might be helpful to include a link near the bar graph about crowd levels so that people can go to your website and see what the crowd levels numbers “mean” in terms of wait times. Otherwise it’s hard to know how to interpret the crowd numbers, for those not already familiar with your methods.

I’ve included a link to give you more information about crowd levels. Thank you for your input and I hope my updates help!

Thanks for adding that. I actually already know what the crowd levels mean, having been a touring plans member for years! But others who are just discovering you will undoubtedly benefit from the more in-depth explanation of crowd levels. I love the weekly update idea. Thanks for taking it on.

I embrace any advice you all have to make these posts even better, so I really appreciate your input.

          Have a great weekend!
