There are a lot of things happening right now at the international Disney Parks! This month has given us a whole slew of exciting announcements, so let’s break them down park by park.

Disneyland Paris

First, Disneyland Paris announced that Summer 2018 will be the Marvel Summer of Super Heroes. At Walt Disney Studios Park you’ll be able to meet Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, and Black Widow. Furthermore, new shows are being developed just for this event. The content of these shows is still unknown.

Additionally, construction will be starting in October 2018 that will transform Disney’s Hotel New York. The hotel will become Disney’s Hotel New York – The Art of Marvel. Guests will be transported to the action-packed, inspiring world of Super Heroes here. It is reopening in 2020.

Disneyland Paris celebrated their 25th anniversary on April 12 this year, and the festivities are continuing through Summer 2018. (I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews about everything they’ve done thus far.) The Marvel Summer of Super Heroes is being touted as THE big event of 2018. It will also be the last event of the 25th anniversary celebration.

Hong Kong Disneyland

HKDL expansion

Work has kicked off on the six-year Hong Kong Disneyland expansion! (Photo courtesy of Disney.)

Hong Kong Disneyland announced a major six-year expansion in May of this year. Earlier this month, construction commenced! Between now and 2023, new attractions will be opening almost every year. Here is what to expect:

  • A Moana-themed entertainment venue will open in Adventureland. It is being called Moana’s Village Festival. Expect to see it in 2018.
  • Sleeping Beauty Castle is going to be transformed into a castle that will honor all of the Disney princesses. New entertainment is being developed to showcase the new castle. It will include both daytime and nighttime shows.
  • A new Frozen-themed land will open that will transport guests to the kingdom of Arendelle. This land will include Frozen-specific attractions and meet and greets.
  • A new Marvel land will also be opening. It will feature a new Marvel attraction that will include Ant-Man, The Wasp, and S.H.I.E.L.D. (This is in addition to Iron Man Experience, which opened earlier this year.) This land will also include new entertainment.

SDL Gelatoni

The big announcement for Shanghai this month is the launch of Gelatoni at Shanghai Disney Resort. If you don’t know, Gelatoni is an artist cat from Italy who is friends with Duffy. (Gelatoni paints with his tail and is named after a pretty awesome dessert – what’s not to love?!) While Duffy has essentially gone extinct in the US parks, he and his friends have a large and loyal following in the Asia parks. Shanghai was the only Asia park that did not include a Gelatoni meet and greet, but that changed this month!

Gelatoni’s launch included the release of a large line of merchandise, as well as themed food and beverage offerings. The Gelatoni merchandise line includes ears, home décor, pins, backpacks, toys, and more. In addition, the food options are adorable, ranging from panna cotta to cupcakes to ice cream.

The “Happiest Celebration” looks like an amazing event at Tokyo Disney Resort! (Photo courtesy of Disney.)

Buckle up for a long update on Tokyo Disney Resort! There are a ton of things happening over there! First, we have details on their 35th anniversary, which has been dubbed the “Happiest Celebration.” The celebration kicks off on April 15, 2018 and will include a wide variety of new entertainment, special merchandise, special food offerings, and more. Here is what they’ve released so far:

  • On April 15 the new daytime parade will be released. It is called “Dreaming Up” and will feature characters from Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast, Peter Pan, and Big Hero Six (and more).
  • Additionally, April 15 will debut an updated “it’s a small world.” It will feature approximately 40 new Disney characters. Expect to see familiar faces from Tangled, Mulan, Cinderella, The Lion King, Peter Pan, Aladdin, Alice in Wonderland, and Frozen.
  • From April 15, 2018 – March 25, 2019 there will be a special 35th anniversary harbor greeting at Tokyo DisneySea.
  • On July 10 “Celebrate! Tokyo Disneyland” will debut. It is a nighttime projection show that will be displayed on Cinderella’s Castle.
  • July 10 is a big day for new shows! Each park will be getting a brand-new show. One will be at Theater Orleans in Tokyo Disneyland and the other will be at Dockside Stage in Tokyo DisneySea. No details have been released about the content of these shows.
  • Last but not least, from January 11, 2019 – March 25, 2019 the “Happiest Celebration” will enter its Grand Finale stage. We do not have details yet about what the finale will entail.

Tokyo Disney Resort also has some great events taking place this winter. These events kick off on January 11th and will include the following:

  • Duffy’s Heartwarming Days is taking place in the Cape Cod area of Tokyo DisneySea’s American Waterfront. This area will become the world of Duffy, ShellieMay, Gelatoni, and StellaLou. Duffy will do meet and greets at the Village Greeting Place. ShellieMay will do them near Cape Cod Cook-Off. Special merchandise and food will also be available.
  • Pixar Playtime is also taking place at Tokyo DisneySea this winter. It will feature gaming booths themed to various Pixar films. In addition, there will be a variety of meet and greets offered. Confirmed thus far are: Woody, Buzz Lightyear, Jessie, Bullseye, Mike Wazowski, Sulley, Remy, Carl, Russell, and Dug. There will also be a special Lightning McQueen greeting. Lastly, outside of Zambini Brothers’ Ristorante you’ll be able to find Remy hosting a culinary show, “Chef Remy & You.” A line of merchandise and special food will also be released for this event.
  • Tokyo Disneyland is also getting in on the winter fun with a special event of their own – Anna and Elsa’s Frozen Fantasy! This event includes meet and greets with Anna, Elsa, and Olaf, as well as the special daytime “Frozen Fantasy Parade.” At night, make sure you catch the nighttime spectacular “Frozen Forever.” This show features movie scenes, songs, and a pyrotechnic finale. Due to the great love of merchandise and all things cute, there will (of course) be special merchandise and special food will be available for the event.
