Wine Country Trattoria – A Disneyland Dining Review

If you’ve been following along with my last couple of articles, you know by now that a few weeks ago I headed out to LA for a quick weekend getaway to the Disneyland Resort. While I was there I thought I would break out of my comfort zone and try some new dining locations. I had a fantastic dinner on my first evening at the Uva Bar in the Downtown Disney District,  I also enjoyed a delicious lunch at Café Orleans in Disneyland Park, and my final Disneyland Resort dining experience I have to share with you was my favorite…lunch at Wine Country Trattoria in the Disney California Adventure Park.

I wasn’t sure how busy Wine Country Trattoria would be on the day I was hoping to try it, so I played it safe and booked a reservation for a lunch a couple of weeks in advance. Just like with Café Orleans, I had no trouble scoring a table on short notice. The morning of my lunch reservation, I headed over early to Disney California Adventure to take advantage of the new MaxPass system to get rides on California Screamin’ and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! under my belt before I stuffed myself full of pasta. Once I conquered the two thrill rides, I made my way over to Wine Country Trattoria, taking the scenic route through a bug’s land and Cars Land.

Wine Country Trattoria Wine Country Trattoria is located in the Pacific Wharf area of Disney California Adventure with gorgeous views of the entrance to Cars Land and the waterfront from its large outdoor terrace. When I arrived I was surprised at just how empty the restaurant actually was, and I was seated at a table on the outdoor patio within seconds of checking in. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of Café Orleans, Wine Country Trattoria felt quite the opposite, almost quiet and tranquil despite the fact there were a few other diners seated nearby.

Wine Country TrattoriaAfter a busy morning of crisscrossing my way through the park, I was ready to sit down for a while to enjoy a delicious lunch and some beautiful views in the serene atmosphere. As quickly as I was seated my server took my drink order and delivered a large order of complimentary bread to my table. Let me just say up front, I am not a bread eater. I almost always skip the bread basket and rarely even have it in the house. It’s not that I’m opposed to bread per sea, it’s just that I don’t normally care for it. But in the interest of research I thought I would try it. I cannot even begin to tell you how much I loved that bread! It was absolutely incredible, so light and fluffy, lightly seasoned, and served with vinegar and olive oil. I seriously could have eaten the entire basketful myself and called it good.

Wine Country TrattoriaAlthough I wanted nothing more than to keep stuffing myself with bread (where has this stuff been all my life?), I tore myself away to order the Spaghetti Bolognese.  And boy was I happy that I had stopped inhaling the bread, because the Spaghetti was just as amazing. I was offered a choice of pasta and went with Campanelle. It was cooked perfectly and topped with a rich yet sweet ragu of Italian sausage, beef, tomatoes, and seasonings. The portion size was perfect for me, and I probably could have finished it had I not eaten so much of that heavenly bread.

With a full afternoon of touring to go, I knew there was no way I could have dessert, but if you’re interested they do offer a chocolate flourless cake, an olive-oil lemon cake, and a seasonal panna cotta.

  • Had World of Color Dining Package there last summer. Wonderful food, atmosphere and views. Sadly the World of Color aspect of it was lame. Got to our spots for the viewing and could hardly see. Eat there most definitely, but DON’T waste your money on the World of Color package.

    • Agree on the World of Color package – you basically have to fight for a space to stand and if you are short, forget it. If you want a relaxed time and a great view of World of Color, do the dessert party instead. Spouse and I have done it twice and had a great time (and view) both times. He is not big on repeating experiences, but he couldn’t wait to do it again.
