Orlando is letting out a collective sigh as the holiday and marathon season comes to a close. Crowds are receding and decorations are being packed up all around the resort. Universal is looking forward towards A Celebration of Harry Potter, Mardis Gras, Fast & Furious Supercharged, and beyond.

Universal Orlando recently teased more announcements this year:

  • New nighttime show in Universal Studios Florida and nighttime projection show on Hogwarts Castle
  • Replacements for Dragon Challenge and T2:3D

2018 is shaping up to be an incredibly exciting time for the resort.

Mail Bag

The Mail Bag is back! The next few weeks of questions come from the Touring Plans Universal Orlando Lines App chat. To have your questions answered leave a message in the comments below or check out the Lines App.

This week’s question comes from PrincipalTinker from the UO Lines App:

When does Volcano Bay close for weather? What happens during thunderstorms? It has closed a couple days this winter due to cold. What is the lowest temperature it has opened? What temp did it close?

Volcano Bay closes when there are detected lighting strikes within several miles of the resort, similar to the hotel pools. These sorts of closures are quick and last for thirty minutes to several hours. The park frequently clears out during severe weather making touring after those storms worthwhile.

For cold weather, Universal has not set a standard cold weather cut off for the park per their Twitter account. As of January 4, 2018 the warmest temperature threshold the park has closed due to cold weather was 62F/46F (16.6C/7.7C) on December 13. Cold weather closures happen one to several days prior the operating day. Check the Universal Orlando and TouringPlans Twitter accounts for the latest operating information.

Weekly Highlights & Noteable News

Attention Potterheads, A Celebration of Harry Potter returns to Universal Studios Florida January 26-28.  The event features an Expo center, panels on the films, trivia challenges, house sorting, and film screenings at the Music Plaza Stage if you need to cool off your broom.

A yearly highlight is panels and appearances from the film talent. This year Bonnie Wright (Ginny Weasley), Natalia Tena (Nymphadora Tonks, Hufflepuff represent), Stanislav Yanevski (Viktor Krum), and Oliver and James Phelps (George and Fred Weasley) are attending.

The celebration is free for all guests of Universal Studios Florida.

That is all for this week. See you next week and make sure to leave a question below for the Mail Bag!
