Disneyland Preview — Week of March 3, 2018

The 2018 Disney’s California Adventure Food & Wine Festival kicks off this week. Read on to find out about this and more in this week’s Disneyland preview!

Special Events and Notes

March is here, and that means it’s time for the Food & Wine Festival at Disney’s California Adventure!  Through April 12, the festival will give you an opportunity to sample a wide variety of food and drinks, in addition to experiencing special entertainment.  There are also seminars and special dinners that require reservations; check out Disney’s site for more details and to make reservations.

Black Panther continues to crush it at the box office, and you can  meet the king of Wakanda himself at Disney’s California Adventure. He’s located in the Hollywood Backlot area, and he’s joined by his Royal Guards.

Disneyland’s Sneak Peek of A Wrinkle in Time does continue this week in the lead up to the film’s release. The preview will be shown in 3D with special in-theater effects at the Sunset Showcase Theater.

Crowds

Crowds are about as they were last week.  The weekend will be busiest part of the week, as per usual, and the latter part of the week will be the most favorable from a crowd standpoint.

Full details, including park-by-park crowd levels, are available on our Crowd Calendar.

Weather

Weather should be better this week, though there is a significant chance of rain on Saturday, and the weekend as a whole will be fairly cool.  The remainder of the week should be quite nice during the day with highs in the 70s, though the evenings will be cool enough for a jacket.

As always, it’s wise to double check the weather as the day of your visit approaches. Check out the most up-to-date forecast here.

Shows

Disneyland continues with a lighter show schedule for now, and it remains the case that only Fantasmic! and World of Color are running at the resort in the evenings — no nightly fireworks at Disneyland Park at all while Main Street is under construction. Detailed show schedules, including smaller diversions like the Disneyland Band, can be found here.

Show Sat Sun Mon Tue Wed Thu Fri
Fantasmic! 2 2 2 1 1 1 2
World of Color 2 2 1 1 1 1 2

Admission and Hours

Southern California Select Passholders are blocked out Saturday and Sunday, while Southern California Passholders are only blocked out on Saturday. All other passes are honored every day this week. For those of you buying tickets as day guests, single-day tickets are Regular price ($117/$110) Saturday, Sunday, and Friday, and Value ($97/$91) the remainder of the week.

Regular park hours (excluding Extra Magic Hours/Magic Mornings) are as follows this week:

Sat Sun Mon Tues Wed Thur Fri
Disneyland 8-12 8-12 9-11 9-8 9-9 9-8 9-12
California Adventure 8-11 8-11 9-8 10-8 10-8 9-8 9-11

As per usual, the parks will open one hour early for eligible guests at Disneyland Park Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday, and at Disney’s California Adventure Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Resort guests can take advantage of these hours every day of their stay for Extra Magic Hours, while guests eligible for Magic Mornings can use that benefit one day at Disneyland Park only. Full park hours can be found by clicking on each date in the Crowd Calendar.

Refurbishments

There continue to be a significant number of attraction closures in effect.  At Disneyland Park, Splash Mountain, Dumbo, and the Storybook Land Canal Boats are being refurbished this week.  There is also a project underway to replace the tracks for the Main Street Vehicles that significantly impacts Main Street U.S.A. and will continue to do so through the middle of March.  Check out Guy’s recent post on the topic for more.

Over at California Adventure, much of Paradise Pier is closed for the conversion to Pixar Pier, with the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail also closed through March 11.  Check out our refurbishments page for details on exactly what will be down and for how long.

That should do it for this week’s preview. Check back next week and every week to find out what’s coming down the pike. Got questions? Aware of anything else that prospective guests should know about? Let us know in the comments.

Refurb info: FYI Splash Mountain is scheduled to reopen on April 14 (per Disneyland’s website and Guest Services). Good thing, too, since I’ll be there right after that!!
