Disney Cruise Line Preview — Week of May 19, 2018

Sponsored by Storybook Destinations

Ahoy, mateys! I’m Heather, and I’ll be bringing you the up and coming on all things Disney Cruise Line. Welcome back again this week. Let’s see what’s new in the DCL world.

Ports of Call

Disney Cruise Line: In The News

Disney Vacation Club Members will want to get out calendars and mark off the dates for not one, but two members-only cruises in 2019, and one on each coast! May 15-20, 2019 will be a 5-night repositioning cruise from San Diego to Vancouver on the Disney Wonder. On the East Coast, Members can sail the beautiful Disney Magic out of New York October 5-12, 2019 with a visit to Boston and Bermuda! DVC Members can book these cruises by calling Member Services on June 23.

The beautiful island of Tortola suffered widespread damage in Hurricane Irma, which has caused Disney Cruise Line to alter Eastern Caribbean itineraries since that time. In a recent update, it has been decided that while efforts are moving in the right direction, Disney does not feel ready to return, citing guest safety and security as the top criteria. As of now, the next scheduled stop to Tortola is July 17, 2018 on a 7-night Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Disney Fantasy. In the meantime, St. Maarten has been a lovely substitute for Tortola!

Here’s this week’s special offers. Most every week of the year, Disney Cruise Line releases special offers for Florida Residents and U.S. Military Personnel.  There are also frequently IGT/OGT/VGT rates available for all guests to book.  These offers are extremely limited in availability, and all come with certain restrictions, but the prices are amazing! You can book these online, on the phone, or with your travel agent. These are the current offers available this week:

Upcoming Entertainment

The following films are being shown aboard the Disney Cruise Line ships this month:

  • Born In China

  • Thor: Ragnarok
  • Coco
  • Star Wars: The Last Jedi
  • Black Panther
  • A Wrinkle In Time

For future reference, films debut on Disney Cruise Line the same day of their initial release in the United States. Films do vary by ship. Show times are available in your Personal Navigator or the official Disney Cruise Line app.

Captain’s Log: Important Tips and Information

It’s one of the most anticipated days of the year – itinerary release day! Yesterday we were gifted with the Fall 2019 lineup. While there weren’t too many surprises, there are some great options, with all four ships getting in on the Halloween on the High Seas and Very Merrytime fun!  Here’s the highlights:

  • The Disney Magic will arrive in New York City after a 10-night Transatlantic sailing departing Dover, England. From there, she will sail various itineraries, including Canada, Bermuda, and the Bahamas. She’ll also sail to San Juan before heading to Miami for Bahamian and Caribbean cruises.
  • The Disney Wonder will have some short but sweet sailings on the Pacific Coast, before heading east through the Panama Canal for a glorious 14-night trip. Once back east, she’ll be based out of Galveston and cruise to the Bahamas and Caribbean.
  • The Disney Dream is our fall Old Faithful, bringing those 3-night Friday departures and 4-night Monday departures to the Bahamas that we’ve come to know and love her for! PS – the Dream is scheduled to be at Castaway Cay on both Christmas Day and New Year’s Day – sounds, well, dreamy!
  • The Disney Fantasy will keep on living the good life in the Caribbean, mostly alternating 7-night Eastern and Western cruises out of Port Canaveral. She’s mixing it up a bit in October with an 8-night Western followed by a 6-night Eastern. She’s also amping up the Christmas week fun with a 7-night Western with two stops at Castaway Cay!

One big change with this release: in the past, Castaway Club members had to call in on their respective release day to book. Starting Monday with Platinum Castaway Club Members, guests will be able to login to their account to book online! Of course, you can also still have your favorite travel agent do the legwork for you. Here are the booking windows for this release:

Monday, May 21: Platinum Castaway Club Members and Golden Oak Club Members
Tuesday, May 22: Gold Castaway Club Members
Wednesday, May 23: Silver Castaway Club Members, Adventures by Disney Insiders, and Disney Vacation Club Members
Thursday, May 24: All Guests

I can’t wait!! Anyone else like me with no cruise control – they just seem to book themselves?? What’s everyone hoping to book? Tell me in the comments!
