In Case You Missed It: News and Rumors – Week of June 15, 2018

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to have an Incredible weekend. Who else is joining me at the theaters to see Incredibles 2?

This week, see what a thief stole from the Magic Kingdom, take a look at what new room design just debuted at Universal Orlando, and more.

In Case You Missed It – Disney and Universal Orlando News and Rumors

This past week, the Walt Disney World Resort lost a legend. Richard Gerth, who many knew from visiting Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, has passed away. He will certainly be missed. Share some of your favorite stories in the comments.

Do you love baby animals? Make sure you head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom where you can see two new baby Grevy’s zebras!

This squirrel just wanted nuts….in the form of peanut M&Ms and he was determined to get them any way he could – by stealing them from the Magic Kingdom.

If you are a Walt Disney World annual passholder (that has purchased one of the select annual pass levels eligible) you can bring a friend to the parks this summer for just $79! That’s a good deal for a one day, Park Hopper ticket.

GeekWire used our TouringPlans and Lines app and suffice to say, I think they had a success trip.

With the Incredibles 2 now in theaters, there’s always that Pixar poll….which are the best movies and which are the worst. This article at least takes that idea and turns it around, asking which Pixar films should get a sequel and which ones shouldn’t. What do you think of their lists?

Did you see the trailer for the upcoming live action Dumbo? What do you think of this film so far?

John Lasseter will not be returning to the Walt Disney Company.

Oh my goodness! I don’t know if this is cool or scary! Your kiddos can now sleep with dinosaurs thanks to the Jurassic Park themed rooms at Loew’s Royal Pacific Resort.

In Case We Missed It

What did we miss? Attach your ideas to an Incredibles 2 Pet Costume (Even Fido wants to get in on the Incredibles fun!) and send it to blog@touringplans.com with the words “In Case You Missed It” in the subject line.

We stayed in the Grand Floridian last summer and Mr. Gerth was one of the highlights of our trip. Such a wonderful, kind man. He will be missed!

It’s a shame Lassiter is being forced out. I fear that no one was truly offended by him until they were told that they should be.

You’re absolutely right; it’s a shame that he left Disney with no choice.

You should read the Hollywood Reporter article on him (it’s linked from the NY Times article Rikki posted). When an executive-level dude is notorious for getting drunk and handsy with women at company functions, I don’t think anyone needs to be “told that they should be” offended by that.

Read it prior to my first post.

We are in the aftermath of the Bill Cosby trial (found guilty), Kevin Spacey incidents (admitted his guilt) and the Harvey Weinstein trial is upcoming. Weinstein’s alleged actions got the #MeToo movement going and brought the plight of sexual misconduct in Hollywood to the forefront. Lassiter has admitted to “missteps” (his word) in his time with Pixar. By all reports, those missteps had been exceeding hugging and making remarks. If he was told to stop and he continued, he is 100% in the wrong. But there is no evidence or reports of that happening.
There are people out there who have no problems with hugging. I have been hugged by strangers (women at that), although I don’t offer hugs because I was in college during the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas hearings and have been very aware that a sexual harassment accusation is a good as being found guilty. And not being careful of that fact is the one thing Lassiter is definitely guilty of. But we will never know how bad his actions truly were.

It was successful, too, as well as being a success. 🙂 I hadn’t planned on doing a side-by-side review for GeekWire when I was in Disneyland until it became clear that others might benefit from my experience. The Lines app and online planning today is far more useful than TouringPlans.com was when I took a trip about five years ago to Disney World. Back in those days, unlimited high-speed smartphone data plans were expensive and extensive, fast data coverage was not as common as it is today.
