I think it’s fair to say that the 90s were not kind to Disney when it came to live action films. But after a very lackluster showing of animated films in the 70s and most of the 80s, I think one could argue that the 90s was the strongest decade ever for Disney animated films. Hard to assemble a list better than Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, etc.

Really, Little Mermaid kicked it all off in 1989. This indeed was the beginning of the Disney Renaissance era. Alan Mankin was one of the most important contributors to the successful films of this time. He did the music to Little Mermaid and has written many, many other great songs and scores for Disney films thereafter. The live action Beauty and the Beast was the last big film he scored. I know he is now doing music for the Tangled animated series. Enchanted is one of my favorite works by Mankin.
