How to Use the Play Disney Parks App in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

I really think the introduction of the Play Disney Parks app has been building up to this point. When Guests enter Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, they will be able to play on their Star Wars: Datapad for a land-wide interactive experience through the Play Disney Parks app. That’s right, Guests will be able to turn their very own mobile device into their own Datapad, which will include several tools that can be used when exploring Batuu, and there may even be some other surprises along the way.

There are a number of features that will be able to be utilized to help you explore the land. One of them will let you be able to use will be the “hacking” feature where you’ll be able to interact with specifics in the land, like certain door panels or even with droids to see their memories. There will be a “scanning” tool which will let you see just what’s inside things, for example, maybe that cargo that’s found laying around the land. There will be a “translation” tool that will help us understand the language of Aurebesh and be able to read the signs that can be found throughout Black Spire Outpost. (Good, cause I certainly don’t speak Aurebesh!) Finally, there will be a “tuning” feature what will allow you to decrypt signals from communication devices and you’ll maybe even be able to hear secret messages.

But that’s not all! There will be a game that happens throughout the land called “Outpost Control”. Here Guests will be able to choose to support either the First Order or the Resistance as both sides vie for a hold on the land. Winners may even find themselves rewarded with galactic credits for their efforts. (This idea of earning credits is certainly something that intrigues me.)

Of course everyone has talked about what happens when you board the Millennium Falcon, in relation to earning those credits, depending on how well you fly the ship. But there’s also going to be an in-queue game – when Guests reroute misplaced cargo, they’ll learn how to keep their cover under pressure and prep the Falcon for their flight.

These games for the Play Disney Parks app will be available at both versions of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge; both Disneyland and at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. If you want to play along, make sure you’ve downloaded the Play Disney Parks app from either the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.
