SATURDAY SIX: The Six Most Interesting, Most Unusual, and Strangest Souvenirs in EPCOT’s World Showcase

by on June 13, 2015

This week’s SATURDAY SIX takes a look at the Six Most Interesting, Most Unusual, and Strangest Souvenirs in Epcot’s World Showcase. After last week’s article on the Six Best Snacks in World Showcase, we’re going stay in the same area and look at another underrated part of Epcot; all the unique gift shops. This is the one theme park in Orlando, if not the world, where you will not find the same old stuff. Outside of the Norway Pavilion, it’s pretty much impossible to find any Frozen merchandise and you will have to go to Future World if you want the Disney Parks merchandise you will usually see at the other parks, Disney resorts, or Disney Springs. It’s a breath of fresh air and there are so many incredible items throughout World Showcase. However today we are not going to look at those. Instead we are going to look in the nooks and crannies and find the six most interesting, unusual, and strangest items starting with….

# 6 – Panda Sitting On a Toilet (China Pavilion)

While World Showcase is filled my with great shopping experiences, by far and away my favorite area to browse is at the Yong Feng Shangdian Department Store in the China Pavilion. It is a gigantic store packed with some of the coolest and most unusual in all of WDW. Wall of actual swords? CHECK. Intricately designed wooden ships? CHECK. Jade sculptures? Gorgeous Chinese dresses? Paper fans and chop sticks? All here. This is a store you could spend the better part of an hour just walking through and checking everything out. It also may contain the most amount of panda related items in Florida. Panda stuffed animals, keychains, coffee mugs, earmuffs… you name it, this store has it. The greatest of all panda items is this Panda Siting on a Toilet toy. Who knows why it could possibly exist, but aren’t you glad it does?

Panda has to be reading a collection of the SATURDAY SIX, right? Only thing that makes sense.

Wait a second. SOLAR POWERED?! Now I’m going to have to buy this to see exactly what it does. Will report back Dear Readers.

by on November 3, 2014

Morocco Pavilion at Epcot

Another act has officially debuted for Epcot’s World Showcase: a new Moroccan performance group called B’net Al Houwariyate. The group is an internationally-acclaimed ensemble of female performers, who play traditional instruments while dancing and performing songs that are based on Moroccan traditions. Musical styles include Berber chants, urban Marrakesh beats, and Andalucian rhythms.

B’net Al Houwariyate will appear on the stage located at the Morocco Pavilion on Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Shows last for approximately 20 minutes and will take place at 1:00 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 3:15 p.m., 4:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m., 6:30 p.m., and 7:45 p.m.

The musical group replaces MO’ROCKIN, who could previously be found playing in the Morocco Pavilion.

This is the third act to debut in the shake up of World Showcase performers; the first act is known as the Canadian Lumberjack Show, debuting on October 5 at the Canada Pavilion, and the second was a flag throwing troupe called Sbandieratori Di Sansepolcro, who began performing on October 17 in the Italy Pavilion. The fourth and final act set to debut is a Celtic folk music ensemble for the United Kingdom Pavilion. There is no official debut date currently set for this performance troupe.

First Look: Review of Spice Road Table at Epcot

by on January 14, 2014

IMG_3049Spice Road Table opened up on Saturday for previews, and I was able to head over there on opening night.

This new restaurant is found in the Morocco Pavilion at Epcot, situated along the water’s edge. It serves up Mediterranean-inspired small plates, along with an extensive drink menu. The restaurant’s inspiration is drawn from outdoor cafes found along the Mediterranean. You really get the outdoor cafe feel, as most of the restaurant is outdoors, with only a small portion of seats situated inside. In the same complex as the restaurant is a Henna tattoo artist station, as well as a Moroccan shop.

The night the restaurant opened, as my husband and I were walking through Epcot, it started sprinkling. Then it started raining…by the time I reached the restaurant, it was POURING! I looked like a drowned rat, seeing as I’d left my umbrella back at the hotel. (So dumb on my part! I always bring it, and then the one time I don’t, downpour!) So, I ran into the restaurant, observing its beauty with rain water-filled eyes. (PS: keep the rain in mind when dining here. While it is covered, there is the potential for you to get a bit wet, depending on the way the wind is blowing.)

My first impressions were that the whole complex was quite pretty. Disney did a great job in the design and theme. As I walked in, I marveled at the incredibly blue wall behind the bar area. I was also in awe of the lights that hung above.

A Peek At The Menu of Spice Road Table at Epcot

by on December 17, 2013

Spicy Shrimp

Spicy Shrimp

Spice Road Table has been a bit of a puzzle. It was announced on April 1 this year that the restaurant was headed to the Morocco Pavilion at Epcot. Construction was quite visible, but as the year has come to an end, aside from one tiny update details on the restaurant have been rather quiet. Today, the Disney Parks Blog shared another piece of the puzzle by giving us a look at some of the menu items we can expect when Spice Road Table officially opens.

Menu items released today include dishes like lamb sliders, rice stuffed grape leaves, fried calamari, salted cod coquettes, and a tingis sampler. Previously announced offerings include garlic jumbo shrimp in a spicy chili pepper sauce; harissa chicken drumettes; mussels with preserved lemons and tomato sauce; a Mediterranean omelet with sausage, potatoes, and caramelized onion; and Moroccan merguez sausage with a tomato salad. Also available will be a wide selection of wines, a Spice Road Table Aperitif Flight, and sangria.

Details About Spice Road Table – A New Moroccan Restaurant in Epcot

by on November 18, 2013

It was announced early this year that a brand new restaurant called Spice Road Table was coming to the Morocco Pavilion in Epcot. Today, Disney shared a few details about what guests can look forward to when when the restaurant officially opens.

This new table service dining establishment is located on the World Showcase Lagoon along the water’s edge, making it the perfect location for catching IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. The restaurant will feature an outdoor terrace with seating for 120 guests. There will also be some indoor seating, enough for 60 guests.

The restaurant’s inspiration is drawn from outdoor cafes found along the Mediterranean. In addition, stretching along the front of the building will be a collection of shops in the colorful style of a Moroccan “souk,” or marketplace.
