We are two years out from the official opening year of the Star Wars-themed lands for both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It was announced today that both will open at some point in the year 2019.

Star Wars Land on both coasts will be the largest ever, single-themed land expansions on each coast. The land will  have Guests transported to a never-before-seen planet that is going to be a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space.

Here’s what we know about the lands so far:

  • There will be two attractions, one centered around the Millennium Falcon where you will actually be able to pilot it; banking left, right and firing the laser cannons. You’ll be in complete control. The second one will find you in a battle between the resistance and the first order in a race against time.
  • In this new world, you’ll enter authentic locations and be able to meet droids and aliens.
  • You’ll be able to enter an other-worldly street market and taste local delicacies.
  • You can enjoy at meal at the best Star Wars themed-dinner club or you can choose to stop in at the local cantina.

You are most certainly going to want to stay tuned to the blog for more details about Star Wars Land as they get released!

Disney YouTube Channels You Should Be Watching

by on April 13, 2016

TouringPlans logoIn need of a Disney fix? Homesick for the Disney Parks? Looking to learn more about the Walt Disney World Resort? My remedy, along with Disney Movie Marathons and sites such as TouringPlans, is YouTube! To be more specific, Disney YouTube Channels.

There are quite a few out there these days; and while I try to visit the Walt Disney World Resort as often as I can, a number of YouTubers have helped to expand my knowledge of the parks and resorts, granted me a glimpse or two of special park events, and just allowed me to come along for the ride with those who know Walt Disney World best! Again, there are A LOT of YouTubers out there spreading the pixie dust; but for today, I’m listing a few that you may or may not have seen but who I think are well worth your time. So get ready because here’s my list of Disney YouTube Channels You Should Be Watching!

FreshBakedDisney

This YouTube Channel is one of my favorites because it’s so unique! David Erickson, the creator and host of Fresh Baked Disney, visits the Disneyland Resort every single weekend and then uploads a video of his weekly visit each day. That’s why the channel is called Fresh Baked Disney, because you’re getting a little bit of Disney baked fresh daily!

David, along with co-hosts Sara and Mike, are the main cast but other friends and even fans of the show join them during their visits to Disneyland. In fact, the different relationships, personalities, and antics are part of what makes the show so fun and entertaining and you feel like you’re right there with them! When watching the show, you will notice that they are often stopped by their fans, known as Fresh Baked Muffins, for a photo and a chat. They are getting pretty well known by Disneyland Fans so be sure to keep an eye out for them if you’re out and about the resort on the weekends.

In addition to their trip reports to the Disneyland Resort, Fresh Baked Disney also produces other videos for their viewers, such as Disneyland Secrets and History, Top Tens, Mailing and Unboxings, David’s “I’ve Got Something to Say,” and even a new series called The Knothole Gang where, each week, he gives Star Wars Land construction updates from various locations throughout Disneyland.

Fresh Baked Disney has two other channels worth checking out too, such as Fresh Baked Gaming and Fresh Baked Presents.

So yeah, you should definitely be watching Fresh Baked Disney if you aren’t already. Even as a Disney World Regular, I love Fresh Baked Disney because it gives me an insider glimpse into Disneyland from someone who has visited each week for years and brings me along on a Disneyland adventures with friends.

New Concept Art for Star Wars Land

by on February 22, 2016

Last night was the Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 anniversary special and of course, the big topic of discussion was about what would be announced for Star Wars Land. We knew that Harrison Ford would be on hand to share some details about the land coming to both Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and what we got was some fantastic concept art, with a few additional tidbits. (Keep in mind that these are screen shots from last night’s special.)

  • Imagine stepping on board the Millennium Falcon and actually piloting it; banking left, right and firing the laser cannons. You’ll be in complete control on board.

Disneyland’s Rivers of America Closing Day Videos

by on January 15, 2016

Rivers of America closing

Take your last cruise around Disneyland’s Rivers of America until 2017 with closing day 4K videos. (Photos/video by Seth Kubersky)

January 10, 2016 will be remembered as a momentous day in Disneyland history, not only because it saw the permanent closure of Big Thunder Ranch, but because it marked the end of Frontierland’s Rivers of America in its current form. This scenic area of the original Magic Kingdom all all its attractions, whose designs date back to Walt’s day, will be out of service until April 2, 2017, at the earliest. When the Rivers of America reopen, it will have been downsized to accommodate the arrival of Star Wars Land, with the water rerouted along a shorter circuit. The next few years will be an exciting time of expansion at the Disneyland Resort, but before we blast into the future it’s appropriate to pay tribute to the past. If you you couldn’t make it out in person before the long reconstruction begins, relieve the Rivers of America closing day with these exclusive videos.

S.S. Columbia and Mark Twain Riverboat Closing Sailings

On the final day before the Rivers of America closing and lengthy refurbishment, I tried three times to board one of the big boats that ply the waters, and was turned away each time because of capacity crowds. That should give you an idea how popular these normally sleepy attractions were with fans saying farewell. I never did get aboard the Columbia that day, though I did capture photos of its final crew coming into port.

Disney Park Strengths and Weaknesses: Hollywood Studios

Are you a Disney Park critic? I know, it’s hard to be critical of anything Disney (at least I think so), but even I have to admit that I’ve experienced a few things that some parks don’t do as well as others. Of course, there’s also a number of things that each park does very well! Today, I’m breaking down Disney Park Strengths and Weaknesses beginning with a park that has expansions in the works: Hollywood Studios.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios first opened in 1989 and is all about the magic of the movies. If you’re up to date on your Disney news, you know that Hollywood Studios has had quite a year! Several attractions have closed for good while several new other offerings have made their debut. I’m talking about Star Wars Launch Bay, Path of the Jedi, and Club Disney here. The biggest Hollywood Studios news of the year, however, is that the park is gaining a much anticipated Star Wars Land and a Toy Story Land!

Now lets get to the Hollywood Studios strengths and weaknesses, shall we?

My Disney World Christmas Wish List

by on November 19, 2015

Walt Disney World and the Christmas Season. It just doesn’t get any more magical than that. I absolutely love this time of year as the Disney World Parks and Resorts begin to deck their halls and debut their annual holiday events and roll out new festive merchandise, it sort of helps me to kick off my own holiday preparations. One way to prep for the upcoming holiday is to take a few moments to drop by the Magic Kingdom or the Santa Chalet at Disney Springs to let the kids, and yourself, tell Santa what’s on your wish list. This tradition got me thinking…  If I could, what would I ask Walt Disney World to get me for Christmas? If you will, indulge with me in a little bit of Christmas fantasy as I fill out My Disney World Christmas Wish List!

Bring Back the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights – Of all the holiday entertainment at Walt Disney World, the Osborne Spectacle of Dancing Lights is my personal favorite. I love the fake snow, the music and carols, the looks on everyone’s faces as they take in the lights, and the fact that it’s free with park admission! So as you can imagine, I was pretty much crushed when I heard that this is the last year for the Osborne Lights, yet I’m just as thrilled about the new developments coming to Hollywood Studios such as Star Wars Land and Toy Story Land. At this point, I’m holding onto a hope that Disney may move the Osborne Lights to another location at Walt Disney World. An announcement confirming my hopes is most definitely on my Christmas Wish List this year.

Questions and Observations from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailers

by on October 22, 2015

Whether you’re a fan of Star Wars or not, you’ve probably heard that the latest trailer for Star Wars Episode VII debuted on October 19; and let’s just say that it was kind of a big deal.

First of all, it caused me to actually look forward to a Monday. Truly historic. Secondly, the trailer went viral almost immediately and sites selling movie tickets were out of commission for most of the night. I know this from personal experience because I spent over an hour refreshing a website to secure myself an opening day ticket for my local theater. It was a do or do not moment because the internet literally wouldn’t let anyone try. In the end, I did secure myself a ticket for an early showing on December 17. (Yay!) Walt Disney World even offered a special Force Awakens Opening Night Event, which sounds awesome!

But let’s get to the important stuff. The trailer. This new trailer followed two Force Awakens teasers and revealed the most information about this much anticipated upcoming film. Director J.J. Abrams has done a remarkable job keeping most of the story under lock and key, but that hasn’t stopped fans like myself from piecing together some important points. Lastly, and listen to this my fellow Disney Parks Fans, I believe the teasers, and particularly this new trailer, show a glimpse of what will Star Wars Land will be! So let’s take this step by step and break down what we know now about The Force Awakens, what we still want to know, and what clues to Star Wars Land we’ve gained from the teasers and trailers in Questions and Observations from the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailers.

Warning: Possible SPOILERS Beyond This Point.

SATURDAY SIX: Six Of Our Emotions Coming Out Of the D23 Expo

by on August 22, 2015

This week’s SATURDAY SIX takes a look at Six of Our Emotions Coming Out Of the D23 Expo. Last week we gave our D23 Expo Preview and can proudly announce that we were the only blog on the entire planet to call Disney involving Stan Lee in their Parks and Resorts presentation. While some would call us The Nostradamus of Theme Parks, we’d like to remind you that we are just your humble servants striving to provide the best possible article in the history of mankind.

With that out of the way, what a D23 Expo it was! Hopefully you caught some of the excellent   D23 coverage by TouringPlan’s own Guy Selga (who has lovingly been referred to as a poor man’s Tom Bricker, or a rich man’s Tim Grassey). There were so many things to come out of of the Expo, but we’re going to take a page from this summer’s blockbuster hit Tomorrowland Inside Out and express our emotions via the very characters in the film! So sit back, relax, and let’s begin our countdown starting with…

# 6 – JOY: Star Wars Land is finally announced!

Our long national nightmare is over. STAR WARS LAND IS COMING! From the day Star Tours opened in the 1980s we’ve all wanted more Star Wars in the theme parks and now we’re actually getting it. The man in charge, WDI’s Scott Trowbridge, is also the very same man behind one of the all time greatest rides in theme park history, Universal’s Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. While details were scarce, what we do know is a jaw dropper. The land will be spread out over 14 acres, have an attraction that sees guests piloting the Millennium Falcon, and cast members will stay completely in character, similar to the witches and wizards inside Diagon Alley.
